[Original rating 2018-03-11] 750 ml bottle from the brewery store. Pours hazy gold with a medium white head. Aroma of brett, funk, banana, black pepper. Taste is brett and overwhelming black pepper. Nowhere near worth the price.

Cork and caged 750 poured into 16oz balloon. Poured a hazy, pale, straw yellow color with over an inch of white that dissipated quickly and left no lacing.

The aroma was that of a fairly typical Tripel; light grain and nice yeast spiciness. The Brett wasn't notable.

Same on tongue, with the Brett having a wee touch more presence.

The body was very nice: lighter than typical, but light, crisp, had good carbonation, and had a mildly sweet finish.

Drinkability was good, especially for a fan of the style, like myself. Overall, a decent take, but I would have liked more Brett. Maybe I should have sat on my bottle? Worth a shot if you see it.

L: Poured from a bottle to a snifter glass. Had a golden yellow color and a cloudy consistency. There was a 1 1/2 inch, creamy, extremely long-lasting head. Very good lacing.

S: A solid aroma of brettanomyces, a vinous quality, citrus, and some spices.

T: Tasted of some mild citrus notes (lemon, in particular), a decent shot of the advertised brett, the vinous quality (white wine grapes), spices (pepper), and an earthy / musty quality. An interesting, lively flavor. The mix of brett, grapes, and citrus makes for a sweet, vibrant, oddly complex flavor.

F: A highly carbonated beer with a prickly finish. Light- to medium-bodied.

O: On the whole, this beer works. It's not your typical tripel, but it manages to be quite drinkable.

O: pretty tasty brew.

Pushing the abbey styled tripel ale over to the wild side, Uinta Brewing Company takes the trappist inspired beer and weaves it together with the funky, sourish and powder fine twang of wild yeast for complexity, depth and balance.

Brett Tripel comes with a frothy tall cap that crowns a beer of pale straw colors. Its spirited aroma is of dried citrus and orchard fruit along with a spicy tingle on the nose. A bold complement of worn woods, leather and cellar-like must decorates the nose while a soft and bready sweetness provides first introductions on the tongue.

Lightly dough, sugary and honey-like, the malt influence begins to recede while the character of fruit pulls from the yeast and rewards the middle palate with a firm kick of lemon, pear and green apple. Orange and grapefruit follow suit while the spicy balance comes with white pepper, clove and a host of wood-like spices. Hints of white wine and lemon pepper finish off the taste while a delicate nature of whole wheat and lemongrass bitterness persists.

Medium full on the palate, the wild yeast provides a dry, powdery and oak-like dryness while a medium length aftertaste of attic funk, sourdough and grassiness echoes soundly. Brett Tripel is a pleasant beer that has a few departures from both tripel and sour ale but comes together with a charming earthiness and a refreshing spiciness.

neat beer, and intriguing too, i have not seen many wild or brett spiked belgian styles, especially tripel, so this had my attention right away. its really interesting stuff, because all the expected yeast elements of the tripel are there first and foremost, its estery and has bubblegum and orchard fruit notes, light spice, and is kind of intense, but the brett comes in giving it a rustic saison vibe, a pretty legitimate funk, and a lot of needed drying capacity, this starts sweet but ends up not, which is a good phase change for this style. highly belgian in the flavor still, with a simple honey sort of malt complexion, maybe some wheat, and a little bit of warming alcohol that seems like more than it is because of the light body and the finishing sweetness. wet animal, hay, and earth from the brett, slight white wine, dried herbs, and rushing carbonation. i dont think this is quite as old worldy as it could be, like if a belgian producer brett spiked a classic tripel, i think we would have a much more authentic and compelling beer, but despite its relative lack of nuance compared to what it could have, i really like the balance, the multiple yeast threads, and the overall vibe of this one. neat to see uinta doing a little more with the yeasts lately! did this get bottled at all?
