Bottled 5/15/09, pulled out of the cellar
Pours with a smaller fizzy off-white head with some retention, some spotty lacing and long legs, dark mahogany to chestnut brown color with very little light coming through
Nose brings sweet malts, caramel, toffee, red candy syrup, some candy bar notes, a bit of oxidation papery notes but leads to a little winey note as well, some dark fruits like fig date raisin notes, def pleasant for the age
Taste kicks in with big sweet malts again, almost syrupy but not quite, caramel, toffee, molasses, with the oxidation adding a touch of papery note and more of the winey also a bit rummy characters, some of that aged malt flavor, into the dark fruits again, fig up front, with some date and red grape wine, hops are still there with a med-lighter bitterness but a spicy flavor, no real alcohol aside from a mild smooth alcohol late, drier mild sticky finish, lingering spicy hops
Mouth is med to fuller bod, a bit of a soft waxy oxidation character, lighter foamy carb, no alcohol
Overall not bad, the oxidation characters are nice, soft aged malt, hops are still a tad aggressive but that was common back then for American Barleywines
