Our Christmas Lager is brewed for the season of short days and magical nights. Toasted oats and Munich malt add depth and complexity, while juniper berries gift a touch of herbal spiciness.

Clear, dark copper pour, darker in the glass; dense, vibrant carbonation; thick, light khaki colored head, moderately dense and long-lasting. Nice aroma; malty; no real sense of juniper. Okay flavor; toasty malt notes; very mild sense of holiday spiciness; a bare trace of fruity esters. Medium body; glass smooth; delicately dry at the finish.
A pleasant yet pedestrian holiday beer. The base beer character really is the high point (taste-wise) while the use of juniper berries seems well-hidden.
ABV: 5.0%; pouring temperature: 41.7 °F; canning info: 10/27/2025

1oz can from Boise Co-op. Clear brown pour, initial fluffy beige head settles down, leaving thick lacing behind. Nutty, malty aroma, toasty. Taste is dark toasted malts, nutty, woody, light notes of chocolate. Bitter snap at the finish. Smooth and super tasty

Given the addition of juniper berries to this beer, I was skeptical that I could rate it as a Munich Dunkel. The juniper, though, seems mainly a substitute for hops, leaving this basically in line with the style.
Appearance and smell are the best aspects of this beer. The head is tall, dense, tan, creamy, and lingering. The remaining ring of bubbles and residual lacing are prominent. Color is a coppery dark amber.
Nose is almost entirely roasted malts with some chocolate. If you have not caught the smell of juniper in the outdoors, you will likely miss it here. It is faint.
Taste and feel are where this beer falls a bit short. Feel is thinner than I expected, but the carbonation is good. The malt has depth and the complexity of nuttiness and chocolate it should have. The hops only show themselves when the beer has had time to sit and warm. If you drink this in the 40-45 degree range, all you can expect to taste is an understated but pungent bitterness from the juniper (and that you will detect almost exclusively in the back end and aftertaste). At warmer temperatures the hops and juniper share the stage nicely, with the hops being up front and the juniper following on.
Overall, this is a good beer, but also a finicky one. I think I will drink beer with more hops when I want bitterness (which is almost all the time) and gin when I want juniper berries.

From Brewvana 12 days of Christmas. Canned October 18th 2022.
Deep amber colour, clear, great head of foam, retention and lacing.
The smell is sweetish malt, light bitterness, fruity from the juniper berries, which is not something that I look forward to tasting.
Yep, starts off nicely malty with light sweetness, a small hop bite and then the juniper berries bring a strange unwelcome flavour that I don't like one bit. It's especially noticeable in the finish.
Fairly light carbonation, I would not buy this if it was on a local shelf.
