A 330ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2012. Purchased some time back from the York Wine & Beer shop.

Poured into a straight pint glass. A pale straw colour with plentiful fine carbonation. Quite hazy, with floating sediment. Produces a massive head of white foam with excellent stability; this slowly subsides to a surface layer. Aroma of stewed hops and faint grassiness with underlying hints of light malt and yeast. Slightly stale.

Tastes of light malt with a dry finish. Notes of stewed hops and dry yeast. No real bitterness, but the hops have a mild harsh quality. The mouthfeel has a full-bodied smoothness, with tingly carbonation and a dry character. Faint aftertaste of stewed hop and malt.

Nothing amazing, though a cut above macro output. The appearance is superb - it looks like the pilsner of your dreams. The body is also good, but the flavour doesn't have much going for it. Too much stewed hops and not enough aroma. Clean but bland. Worth trying, but don't expect too much.

3rd Beer of my random tasting evening on 12 Aug 2011. The brown 330ml bottle had 12 days life left when poured into a Veltins Pilsner badged stemmed tulip.

Regular Pilsner/Lager look: golden, clear and bright, the pure white head produced some good lacing as the beer sank down the glass.

Being made with a blend of liberty and saaz hops ensures there is a citrusy feel to the beer both in taste and in the aroma given off. Although not strong, there was a grapefruit hint throughout the tasting and it added a nice dimension to the beer.

I'm never going to be a huge lager/pilsner fan, but this sits highly in my eyes and if it was a hot day I'd consider having another.

330ml bottle bought from GapWines, Belfast...

Poured a light honey yellow colour... white head poured pretty big and foamy then faded to decent frothy layer which was maintained throughout by a good steady stream of carbonation... some light patchy lacing...

Aroma - Strong sweet honey mixed with biscuity malts, vanilla notes, butterscotch, peppery and grassy hops, light candy sugar, doughy bread, light almond nuttiness, some spicy tropical ripe fruits (banana, mango, light peach), some talcum powder traces...

Taste - Good strong peppery and grassy hop bitterness, biscuit malts, tart fruits (sour apples, limes), some soapy traces, very light toasted bread, light floral honey sweetness, faint chalkiness, some graininess...

Feel - Crisp, sharp and dry... Light body... A very quaffable pilsener...

Overall - A good clean crisp flavourful lager... As good, if not better, than a lot of Czech / German brewed examples... recommended...

Purchased at the Oddbins wine shop. The Brewery's website states that: "To produce Freedom Pilsener we've re-assembled the original Freedom brewery and bought a much larger brewery set-up from the States to cope with demand." Coming in a 330ml long-neck green bottle, the beer label has no freshness info. Served chilled in a pilsner glass.

A: yellowish-straw hued, the beer head comes pretty restrained, with but a thin layer of foam sustaining on the top, fed by abundant yet not overly lively fizziness.
S: the flowery and mildly grassy edge of hops rides on top of a stream of pleasant, semi-sweet grainy maltiness with a touch of honey-tea at the back--quite balanced, albeit not extraordinary.
T: hop's slightly sour-sweet lemony fruity edge as well a bitter-ish grassy hint prevail, gradually yielding more space to a mild flavour of bitter-sweet caramely malts(?!)... softening in body and becoming cleaner towards the finish, while a lingering bitter and dryish edge of grassy hops stays firmly in the aftertaste, providing an interesting "rusty" mouthfeel.
M&D: compared with the bottled version of Freedom Organic Lager, this bottled effort seems to outweigh the former by a margin. Having tried the draught version at the Bunk brewpub where this beer is also brewed on the premise there, however, this bottle still lacks a crisp edge that is hard to keep intact I suppose. But all in all, this medium-bodied pilsner-style lager is refreshingly textured and decently made with a good bunch of hops to enjoy.
