I am trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a nine sample flight. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that is leaving some lace. The scent had subtle grain and roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet chocolate malt base and subtle roast presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had smooth carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

Tasted on the sampler at the brewpub. I'd have to call this a "baby stout" because it has the right flavors just not enough of them. The appearance and smell are spot-on but it didn't have the potency that was needed. The drinkability suffered in part because the buildup of the appearance and smell was soo good.

Definitely "black as midnight," as advertised. The nitro tap ensured a fine, tight head, but on top of that it lasted for a solid 15 minutes, as I took a while to get to this one after it arrived. Each sip was definitely crackley-crisp and dry, but it ended with a burnt, charcoal edge that kind of clobbered some of the more delicate roasty malt notes.
