We made this "Heffe Dunkel Weizen" to celebrate spring of 2007 in Northwestern PA. We know what happened to spring... and found the "Heffe Dunkel Weizen" label a bit lengthy. So we decided to morph the name to fit the most often utilized adjective describing April 2007's wonderful weather!

Pours a very nice dark brown color with a khaki colored head that gives way to nice lacing. The nose is of roasted nuts, roasted malts, wheat, and banana. Taste wise there is a backbone of roasted malt and nuttiness, on top is a wheat taste with a nice splash of banana. The mouthfeel is the only slight knock due to a slight watery feel to it. Drinkability is very very good you can have a lot of these and go to town.

A- dark brown with thick foamy light tan head that fades and leaves behind a good amount of lacing.

S- very light smell of citrus and wheat.

T- citrus upfront with hints of spices. Hints of dark fruit, nuts, clove, and apple too. Great yeast aftertaste.

M- nice light smooth mouthfeel. Low carbonation and light body.

D- This was definately a treat and I would not hesitate to have it again. Light beer flavor in a dark beer. amazing. good for anytime of the year.

Appears a dark ruddy mahogany hue large effervescent creamy tan head leaves fine laceing around my pint glass. Aroma has light smokiness to it with added clove, vanilla banana and the darker roasts bring out some powdered dark chocolate accents to all of the yeasty goodness in this local dunkelweizen, also noted some herbal hops in there as well. Flavor has a bit of raisin and green apple tartness in the forefront of the malt combined with the traditional yeast strain that provides some clove banana accents with the wheat sharpness bringing a tame citrus flavor but again the dark roasts bring a mild bitterness teamed with light herbal hops finishes kinda dry powdered chocolate mix. Mouthfeel is spritzy effervescent carbonation light to medium bodied never feels heavy or cloying really smooth offering. Drinkability a great PA dunkelweizen I can tell it's not a German but great quirky farmhouse style from a local brewer here in Western PA good stuff you can definitely handle a couple of these.

Growler -> pint
spring 2007

Pours a hazed murky dark brown with some deep tan highlights in the light. A thick tanned head leaves sporadic gobs of chunky lace.

Nose: Bananna, roasted nuts,

A slightly watered crisp mouthfeel, with flavors abound. A full on malty bananna explosion dominates the palate. Bitterness is barely detectable, but lend some balance.

My new favorite seasonal wheat beer. I love the style and Sprague Farm Works didn't disappoint. Their best beer to this point. Keep the new brews brewing!
