Copenhagen 26/2 2023. 50 cl bottle from Craft Makers Collective web-shop. Off-white and brown label in classic beer label design.

Pours opaque, dark brown with a mid-sized light beige head. Stable. Settles as 0,5 cm thick, fluffy layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.

Aroma is medium intense with a dark, roasted and sweet odor mingling with citric notes. Dark, roasted malts. Subtle grapefruit and lemon.

Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, almost flat texture.

Flavor is fairly intense with a rather strong sweetness followed by a medium strong citric bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter and lingers for a while. Finish is roasted and semi-dry.

Roasted and citric. Reminds me of a dark Indian Pale Ale.

my first beer from these guys, either of them, looks like its two breweries that share one space, kind of neat. this is the randers brown, an awesome take on the style, which for me has been really slow to evolve here in the states, this seems different to me, partially because its a little lighter than most on the grain side, stopping well short of roasted notes, but also because of the yeast, which is more flavorful than i am used to in an american type brown, something about danish ale yeast, if thats even a thing, or maybe the water profile there, but i always love the way they come together, regardless of maker or style, its a thing in my mind. there are notes of toasted chestnuts, raisins, and oak, although its neither wood aged nor sweet. i like the lighter body but the fluffy feel and uplifting carbonation, and it seems to have traveled here really well, no oxidation or staleness at all, very fresh and alive in the glass. a unique brown ale overall, nutty and earthy and light for the style, with a cool yeast profile and some nice hoppiness to finish. i thought this was excellent, and would love to try more of their beers!
