Tasted by half-pint at arguably Chelmsford's best pub, the Queen's Head, on 12/07/2006 during the afternoon interval of the Chelmsford Beer Festival. According to the pump-clip, this beer seems to be a seasonal brew especially for the annual Bourne Festival.
A: pale straw in colour, no beer head, and the body is quite flat with very low amount of fizz; served cool, though.
S: fresh, light, citrus-peels dominated, with suggestion of lemonade and elderflower cordial... hoppy, but not overdone.
T: a light flow of white-grapefruity flavour introduces a lingering hoppyness, relatively restrained in flavour but assertive in body and texture; tangy-bitterness develops quietly and soon overwhelms the whole palate. Overall, the flavour profile is simple/simplistic, but the profound bitter aftertaste makes up for the lack of more complexity.
M&D: smoothly-textured, slightly thin in terms of overall body. Tasting very much like a typical Blond Ale/Bitter, with a good hoppy texture that is the soul of this beer. Easy-drinking, but slightly too smooth to keep a refreshing palate.
