Appearance - The brew pours a caramel- golden color with a two finger head of white foam. The head has a decent retenting fading over time to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell - The aroma is heaviest of a caramel smell mixed with a bit of rye and wheat. Overall the aroma is fairly nice and smooth in nature.
Taste- The taste begins with a somewhat more wheaty and lightly sweetened taste of caramel. There is a little bit of rye bread upfront which grows slightly stronger as the taste advances. The rye is light overall, but produces a nice accentuating flavor to the caramel, wheat, and bready tastes, and with a little bit of citrus and herb hop that develop, one is left with a rather smooth, decently flavorful, but easy drinking flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is rather light with a carbonation level that is rather high. For the flavor profile a bit more thickness and lower carbonation would have been slightly better but for the super low abv the feel is very fitting.
Overall - A tasty and easy drinking brew at a low abv. I have to give cred to Shiner!! They have the ability to produce a great product with lots of flavor, all while bring sessionable. That is not an easy fest..

Drank this out of the bottle. Really nice flavors. Some rye, cracker taste, and some floral notes with it as well. Finishes very easy. Another good birthday beer by Shiner.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on April 28, 2018.

It is a nice looking copper color with a lingering white head.

The aroma is caramel malts, sweet, but not toasty as one would expect from the style. There is a distant rye grain character and almost no hop profile.

Thin to light body. Not much depth here.

The taste tends to be caramel sweet and crackery. Little to no hop finish. This has more the makings of an ESB with less bitterness. It didn't do much for me.

I respect brewers who can obtain a lot of flavor in low-alcohol beers. Farmhouse Rye is surprisingly tasty for being so light a beer. A nice start to any session drinking when you're working yourself up the ladder, ABV%-wise.

Light, salted sticky caramel, lemon, grain. Drinkable, but a bit cloying.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 5/18/2018. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of lemon, pear, red apple, peppercorn, clove, wheat, spicy rye, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, wheat/rye malts, and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, red apple, peppercorn, clove, wheat, spicy rye, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate peppery yeast/rye spiciness and herbal/grassy hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, pear, red apple, peppercorn, clove, wheat, spicy rye, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wheat/rye malts, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and minimal astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a smooth, moderately crisp, and bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is good. A bit rough, but easy drinking. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.3%. Overall this is a good saison. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wheat/rye malts, and earthy hop flavors; smooth, crisp, and pretty refreshing to drink. Not very complex on the saison yeast, but well balanced between all flavors. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Shiner 109 Farmhouse Rye has a thin, off-white head, a hazy, deep gold appearance, with lots of bubbles & chunks, but minimal lacing. Aroma is faint- some sourdough. Taste is similarly faint, with mellow, toasted grain. Mouthfeel is medium, and Farmhouse Rye finishes crisp and easygoing. A very mellow item, here.

Not unpleasant, but lighter than expected. Somewhat malty, very low bitterness.

Beautiful looking beer, clear, solid gold body topped with a thick, foamy white head; rings of foam adhering to the glass. A rather indistinct, malty aroma. The flavor starts out dull and tasteless and then develops and somewhat spicy note. The beer is light bodied and very fizzy on the palate; dry finish.

If this is supposed to be a farmhouse ale with a rye character, I can't detect either quality. If anything, this is a rough AAL in character, perhaps darker in color, but really nothing like its name would suggest.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is gold to copper, head is off white and presents about 3/4 inch thick and lingers very well - solid top after 15 mins of warming.

Smell is quite earthy/spicy/hoppy - noble grassy hops, lighter earthy/spicy rye character, pleasant barley malt sweetness.

Taste is very pleasant - light toasted malt, some bread, quality rye earthy/spicy character, very nice noble hop character with grassy, herbal notes.

Mouthfeel is crisp, carbonated, a bit sharp but not overly bitter.

Overall a good brew from Shiner - simple, but well constructed with great rye notes and aromatic hop character.
