12 fl oz twist-off:

Label doesn't specify how long this was aged in American white oak barrels, but at least it gives the vineyard. 6.5% ABV. 28 IBU. 6.8 SRM. 10.1 OG.

Taste is pleasant but lacks the hop pungency one would expect in pale ale (maybe half that of Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale at most). Rose petals, grape must, floral hop flavour, hints of pink peppercorn, some kind of bright fruit. I can't say I taste any oak whatsoever or even any wine notes beyond the grape must, which makes me suspect this spent very little time in barrels (3 months or less).

Balanced and mellow, though, and it's adequately complex for the style (which doesn't demand much). More hop pungency is needed to really merit the pale ale categorization, but judging this as a fruited ale of sorts it's a nicely executed brew for the price.

It's nice to see Shiner putting out interesting efforts like this, but I wouldn't buy it again given I'm rarely in the mood for this sort of light fruited ale and it doesn't scratch my pale ale itch. Certainly not worth the $10.99 per sixer pricetag, which is far more than I usually see Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (for example) priced at.

Appearance: Rose colored orange glass holds an impressive finger of purple hued foam that lasts and laces the glass.

Aroma: Sweet, grape esters, no hop notes.

Taste: Amber ale? Not hoppy enough for a Pale Ale. There's a pretty firm grape note, skin, juice, and a little wine flavor in the finish. No real barrel character.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation, light body, somewhat watery texture, oily lasting finish.

Overall: It's a beer wine hybrid. I don't really like wine, so I'm not really liking a lot of wine in my beer. I wanted a Pale Ale, which has some hops. This is a very sweet beer, no hops. My wife likes it, she likes wine. ... I like beer.

Brewer's Pride Rose Pale Ale has a thin, off-white (somewhat rose-tinted) head, a very bubbly, clear, rose-brown appearance, and minimal glass lacing. The aroma is of grape skins and brown bread crust, with a candy sugar note. The flavor is of those elements, with a bitter back taste. Mouthfeel is medium, and Brewer's Pride Rose Pale Ale finishes dry.

Poured from bottle into tulip, 1 finger off white colored head, recedes to a pool after a few, nice lacing. Clear amberish red in the glass. Not sure if it was the malt bill that pushed this to amber or if it was from the barrel. Picking up mainly vinous notes, There is a brightness from the grape, almost a little tart. The malt is bracing up the middle, and the finish has a slight bitter tannic finish. The residual left on the palate is that of a slight fruitiness from the grape. This is perhaps the most interesting beer I have had from Shiner, and will probably be picking more of this up. Still not sure why they are branding this a pale ale, not sure what hops they used, but it was a good choice, they are literally staying out of the way of the grape and letting it steal the show.
