Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance -The beer pours a light brown color with a small head of off white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a sweeter caramel and molasses smell mixed with some lightly toasted brown bread smells. Along with these smells comes some coffee and a little bit of crème. For a coffee ale the coffee is not as big as expected, but overall the smell is decent and has a nice sweet and lightly roasty smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet toasted brown bread flavor that has a big showing of molasses, brown sugar, and some chocolate. These flavors are the dominate upfront with just a little bit of coffee at the start. As the taste advances the coffee gets a little bit stronger, but remains on the lighter side in comparison to the sweeter tastes. Toward the end, the sweetness gets even stronger, almost cloying in nature for the robustness of the brew, leaving one with a light coffee, but big sugary sweet taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly more chewy side for a 5 % abv brew with a carbonation level that is average. Overall the feel is pretty decent as it doesn’t overaccentuate the sweet, but provides a decent base for the coffee and the roast.
Overall –Ahh. Not really my cup of tea. It lacked in the coffee department and was a little to sweet for the malt base.
