2023 release
Pours a creamy frothy 1 finger off-white head with fair retention, lots of sticky lacing, hazy maroon to mahogany color
Nose big sweet toasted malts, fair caramel, toffee, a bit nutty, aged soft brown malts as well, bread crust, caramelized sugars, some vanilla and mild bourbon barrel notes, a lot like a BA old ale, some orchard fruit ester notes, dates and figs as well
Taste brings more of the aged old ale malt taste, soft toffee biscuity butterscotch cookie, caramel, candy apple and more orchard fruits as well as the fig date and candied apricot notes, rich creamy vanilla and buttery oak, a bit of sweet bourbon, light smooth alcohol, a bit nutty toffee candy bar but not overly sweet, toasted bread crust late, with mild bitterness up front turning to a med to lighter bitterness on the semi sweet stick finish, with a bit more alcohol
Mouth is fuller bod, soft almost waxy aged feel, med to higher carb as well, light warming smooth alcohol
Overall this was a nice beer, def more of a BA old ale than Imperial Red, but maybe because it is a bit aged for 2023 vintage, but regardless it's quite tasty
