Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue VIII:
Montréal is known for a lot of things, but their smoked meat is one of our favorites--you meat-lovin' poutine fans know what we're talking about. It's no surprise that quite a few brewers in the area brew a fumée (smoked) beer too. So let's check out this red smoked ale.
Pours a deep garnet color with ruby red hues. Also pours rather foamy at first, due to the very expressive yeast strain, yielding a creamy beige lace that remains to the end. Lively on the palate with a fizzy carbonation that creates the creamy sensation. Intense sweet and smoky character in the nose. Leather. Overripe cherries. Apple wood. Meaty, yeasty and bacon-esque. Slightly sweet with a twang from the smoke. Suggestions of marrow with the soft yeastiness. Dries out toward the end with more leather in the aftertaste and a lingering smoke.
Unfortunately, there seems to be some initial signs of yeast autolysis--an odd, meaty taste from dying yeast cells--but it's still an OK smoked beer (for those who've acquired a taste for them ... like us). It could just use some cleaning up.

341 bottle poured into a pint glass
A : Dark brown color with a golden brown head that stays on.
S : Really smoky, inviting smell
T : As we an imagine, it does taste like smoke but not too much. It is not undesirable at all, the taste is interesting.
M : Medium bodied
D : I would definitely drink another one. Not the best one out there but still a good one.

The beer is brown/amber color. It is veiled not clear. Not a typical brownish mud looking beer. The head is almost not existent, with is a shame IMO. The smell is smoky malts. I only get this and maybe a faint touch of caramel. It is very faint, the aroma is dominated with smokiness. The taste is similar, smoke malts with a light bitterness. Thin body. Drinkability is great.
An nice average smoked beer. I would even say this beer is a good introduction to smoked beer.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear brown color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of caramel malt with light smoky notes. Taste is also a nice enough mix between some caramel malt with some medium smoke notes. Probably not as much smoke as some the German smoked beers out there but I am not sure that was the point anyway. Well balance and easily drinkable.

On tap at Vices&Versa, Montreal.
A-Dark ruby brown with a thin tan head that left decent lacing behind.
S-Liquid hickory smoke, beef jerkey and sweet malt combine in an intoxicating aroma.
T-Mmmmm...liquid smoke meets sweet malts with a side of beef jerkey thrown in for good measure. All meld into a frenzy of flavour. Soooo good!
M-Medium body with a nice dry finish.
D-Oh yes, smoky heaven! This is serious stuff--Great! I am such a sucker for a well done smoked beer.

La boucaneuse is a smoked red ale, the boucane is french slang for smoke.
A: nice red color as an Irsh ale, no head at all. it's missing something.
S. Smell like a cheap barbecue. not very expresive.
T: the mouth is full of liquid smoke, no body,
M: thin beer.
not a bad beer but nothing to look forward, missing a bit of caracter.
