500ml bottle split courtesy of Bobsy - thanks man!

Amber brown pour with hints of ruby under a half glass of foamy speckled head. It's a pretty color but I'm relatively certain that much head is not intended for the style.

Nose has some nice earthy, nutty qualities but is bursting with cherry and plum fruitiness which is muted by a slightly odd astringent quality.

Nuts, bread, minerals, earth... and loads of dark fruit. Again, the slightly off bitter astringency which throw this one off IMO. Not helped out by the mouthfeel which is overwhelmed and all too thin.

Certainly not undrinkable but not my favorite alt by a long shot.

500ml bottle from Derek - cheers!

Light brown pour with red highlight and a voluminous foamy light tan head. Good retention and some nice lacing, though the size of the head on pouring does make me concerned that this has carbonation issues (thankfully it doesn't). Earthy aroma of stale coffee grounds, nuts and eggshell. Flavour is classic alt, but a little weak in part due to a lack of substance in the body. Nuts mingle with earth and an eggshell bitterness. Underlying brown breadiness slowly comes to dominate, and a grassiness begins to emerge in the finish. What really brings this one down is a seriously underpowered mouthfeel, which comes off feeling light and watery. Its too bad really, because with a little bit more bulk I think it could let the flavour shine.

Fix the body and we'd have a great alt. As it stands, it's a pleasant pairing with dinner, but not something I'd recommend hunting down.

Pours a huge beige head of soapiness that comes to dominate the glass. Malty aromas. A bit light mouthfeel. Initial taste is very much in stle of an altbier. Carbonation is fizzy. Some ginger kicks in, it gets less tasty by the sip, and 500 ml. is way too much to drink.

A: Deep copper with a slight haze, light tan head, good retention & lacing.

S: Nobel hops, nuts, bread & hints of dark fruit.

T: Nutty, bready, very nice hop flavour (Hallertau?), balanced bitterness.

M: Fairly full, moderate body with carbonation on the low side of moderate, very smooth.

D: I like it a lot.

Bottle: Poured a medium clear brown color alt with an average size foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of lightly sweet caramel with a light touch of molasses. Taste is pretty straightforward with some notes of caramel and subtle molasses with some residual grainy malt notes. No major flaw to be noticed but somewhat bland - tasted worse from this brewery.
