My local, in-person trader, tone77, had given me this bottle as part of a trade and I set it aside as part of the backlog. I am suddenly inspired to winnow through the backlog plus I have been eschewing hoppy beers for the time being to explore some other styles.

The red cap was a screw-top so I was cheated out of a Pop! I utilized a gentle pour, having read previous reviewers who alluded to floaties. It worked out since I still got two fingers of dense, light-tan head with good retention. Nose was malty sweet, but I also caught a whiff of grassy hops. Color was a beautiful Deep Amber-Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but close. I found the taste to be a pleasant surprise in that it was certainly malty, but the hops acted as a nice counterbalance. I had girded myself for a malt bomb, but this was held in check. Man, I could drink this routinely. The finish was semi-sweet, but it had the potential to be much sweeter. Well done!

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a light brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of caramel malts. Taste is of caramel malts, hops are present, easy drinking and refreshing. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall a solid beer.

 

 

Very nice, lasting foamy head. It settles in a lumpy fashion. Decent initial lace, but less than I expected. The liquid is dark amber with a haze.

Lots of crystal malt sweetness to the nose. Like caramel.

The flavor is classic red/amber--mostly toasted white bread notes up front. Good peppery hop bitterness by the time the swallow starts. Relatively short aftertaste, though. Above neutral body with an expected carbonation level.

Overall, no errors for an easy-enough-to-drink beer, but nothing unusual or interesting either.

 

 

 

 

 

I had this with my girlfriend. I made a joke about her not wanting to get it because she doesn't like redheads. She said "I don't want you to get it, you might like it too much." She's insane. This beer was okay. I wasn't thrilled by anything at Sprecher besides the logo. I first thought it was a crow. It's a griffin. Which I suppose is cooler.

Redhead Ale pours a hazy brown color with a nice long lasting head. There is a overly sweet aroma. The taste is harsh and way to sweet malts come through, with strange bitterness at the end. Watery taste, which is good because its an overall weird taste. Overall its watery, light, not good.

 

A true redhead she is, though a touch cloudy. It sort of sits in the range between bright orange and flaming red. It brings up just less than a finger of yellow-tinted head that leaves moderate lacing in patches.
The smell is pretty good, with caramel and toast balancing against grassy, herbal hops bitterness that also brings out some earth and a particular yeast note.
The hops are strong, surprisingly so, but it seems to lose a bit of the balance as it takes a chalky turn and goes raw in the finish. Malts are still there, they just get taken over. The finish just goes a little hard.
The feel isn't bad. It sits at about a medium body with ample carbonation providing a reasonably crisp bite and smoothness.

 

Not sure of the age but based on the first review my bottle must be around 5-6 months old

A - Well not very surprising I only get a 1/4 inch of head that quickly reduces to a nice lace ring. Color is a hazy mild amber brown with some tiny floaties.

S - Smells like caramel malts, toasted malts, a nice hop balance, and yeah it still smells pretty good like a red ale should.

T - Well it held up pretty well and I am digging the decent amount of hop bite to this. Seems very toasted malt forward too with a sweet caramel like finish. Not great but very palatable.

M - Light to medium very on par for the style.

Overall this being brewed once I doubt I will be able to snag another but pretty much everything these guys make is pretty above average. Worth the 5 bucks for a bomber.
