Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin beige head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains roasted malts, lager yeast, some chocolate, some coffee and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with bready flavors from lager yeast and a hearty malt character followed by mild flavors of dark chocolate, black coffee and some dark fruit. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, decent kick, decent representation of style, there are certainly a lot of other beers in the style that I would choose first.

pours out a nearly opaque dark brown colour with mahogany and ruby tints. respectable tan head and wispy lace. yeasty aroma, dark malts and red ripe fruity hints. smells a bit like a baltic porter. flavour profile runs the gamut of a typical black lager, schwarzbier or whatever this is. blackened malts, some chalky/yeasty notes with hints of ripe red fruits such as cherry or blackberry. it's not totally clean as there is a bit of some off flavours but after reviewing the previous game on offerings, this is splendid compared to those. medium bodied, about right on for the style with a lagerish mouthfeel accented by a bit of chalk and yeast. this has a nice drinkability...again compared to the other game on stuff i've choked down, this has some definite upsides.
overall...i'm intrigued by the hints of baltic porter this concoction has. there is enough going on beyond the regular black lagers i've tried before. not sure if this is supposed to taste this way but i find this enjoyable nonetheless. worth a try.
