April 11th, 2015 - The spelling is a mouthful for a non-native speaker of wherever "Jarrylo" comes from, but it's a pleasant beer to sip, easy and slightly sweet. I smell a little light citrus on the aroma, with freshly squeezed lemon at its peak, and find much the same in the taste. Combining a standard IPA style flavor with touches of lemon and lime, the Jarrylo tastes very much like a beer-shandy, which makes me pine for a bench on a golf course to accompany this beer.

22oz bottle - single hopped with Jarrylo - another new hop for me!
This beer pours a generally clear, bright pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and yet bubbly bone-white head, which leaves some thin and crooked chain link fence lace around the glass as it evenly sinks away.
It smells of bready, grainy pale malt, earthy, kind of musty yeast, wet banana chips, a further muddled drupe fruitiness, oh so subtle citrus, faint peppery spice, and a typical Ninkasi leafy, weedy hoppiness. The taste is bready, doughy pale malt, a touch of grainy caramel, a retreating earthy yeastiness, a sort of mixed-bowl of neutered grocery aisle fruitiness - banana peel, orange rind, and underripe pear, all - tame table-top white pepper, and weakly spicy, leafy, and weedy hops.
The carbonation is fairly involved in its all-around frothy renderings, the body a decent enough medium weight, and just a wee bit clammy in its otherwise plain smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the base malt holding down the fort, while the guest hop continues to spend its free moments figuring itself out.
Like a lot of these single hop experiments that more adventuresome brewers tackle, the hop herein, while not 'untested', is still not ready for prime time. Not a bad brew, but this is not the hop(s) we are looking for (waves hand to make the next beer appear).

Notes taken on 10/12/2014 – Lagunitas Mason Jar
A: Golden amber look with some light hop haziness across the body. Tiny streaming bubbles form into a thick bedding of frothy bone white suds with great staying power. Nice lacey window dressing as the head subsides and you take a sip.
S: Smells of green bell peppers with a touch of earthy spice and some light malty breads. A bit of earthy minerals round out the nose. Very interesting with the green pepper notes coming through. Not sure what to make of it just yet.
T: Tastes much the same with a distinct bell pepper note coming through. I wonder if that is characteristic of this new hop and/or if others are picking up on it? At any rate mix in some light earthy spices and subtle flashes of citrus. The base has a nice touch of bready pale malts laid out and there is a very restrained bitterness to this overall. Kind of plain Jane actually with not all that much going on here. But I guess that is to be expected with these single hop brews.
M: Light and frothy body with a nice creamy feel across the palate. Low amount of bitterness. Nice drying finish and fairly clean overall. Not very resinous at all.
D: This was an easy drinker but not all that impressive. Fairly one dimensional with that distinct green pepper – vegetal note. Not sure Jarrylo will be a money maker but always nice to check out whats new.

Mostly clear golden amber with fine, sparse haze. Off-white fluffy head of good retention. Very clean smell, if anything slightly citric and mellon-like. As far as the hop varietal being showcased, on the palate it seems grassy, with only a hint of apple/pear and again slightly mellon-like, almost even resinous, spicy, soapy. A grassy, biscuity in the malt range as well, I’d say. Medium-bodied, fizzy but thick carbonation, mellowing to sloshy suds.
