Just discovered this beer on tap at Bailey's Taproom last night; asked for and received a 10 oz. pour. Had to look up more info about it, including the pronunciation/meaning of the name. Named after a Welsh goddess/witch [kerr-EHD-wen]...now you know...
Horse Brass' website (another location where on draught) says:
"A Dortmund style lager with imported German malts balanced by a gentle dose of German Hersbrucker Hops." 5% ABV
A: Slightly hazy noney-golden with minimal white head, maybe 1/4" at best. Fades slowly away to a gauzy film with a modest creamy ring. Decent carbonation and patchy lacing.
S: Lightly baked bread, faintly floral. Faint sweetness akin to a honeyed yeast roll.
T: Malty, lightly doughy - buttered biscuit? Wonderful sugary, clover honey-like backing. Just enough bittering hops for balance and to provide a drier finish.
M: Clean, not overly carbonated. Not quite 'crisp', but refreshingly light/medium mouthfeel. Light-medium body, but not weak at all. A bit of malty stickiness on the lips.
D: Wonderful session/"light" lager with a pleasing flavor and aroma. I enjoyed this imperial pint enough to return to it, absolutely. Ninkasi's website (MySpace) lists this as a seasonal, so I'll be looking forward to it every fall. Currently (Fall '07) found in select Portland area/W. Oregon locations...
