Another review of a beer first consumed at the Sierra Nevada Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild festival in Chico, CA.
Another amber pour at this festival. Maybe someone will clue me in on why there were so many maltybois at this fest someday. 1/3" white head. Aroma wasn't all that hoppy, and how surprised are you when its a Sterling hopped beer. I've always taken Sterling to be in the beers you didn't want too hoppy beyond the occasional lager.
Taste like the nose is pretty tame. Mild citrus notes. This has some overlap with an English ipa. Lower carbonation on this one compared to the other Ninkasi's that day. Just not enough expression on this one, but on the upside, no off flavors either. Dry biscuit like base. Seems like they went after the 'smooth' descriptor more than showcasing a hop variety in its 'fresh' stage. Not my cup of tea, but I can see why they would go 'niche' with something like this.
