Whether in the glacial artic or helping the Goddess Ninkasi with her annual hop harvest, Mastodom, evolutionary wanderer of the frosty north, emanates tropical and citrus notes with every sonic booming step. His massive tusks can chill upon contact, helping the Goddess keep her hops, beer, and even fermentations cold when needed over the eons. This evolutionary Imperial Cold IPA is a tribute to this extraordinary creature.

Picked up as part of a mixed IPA 12 pack from the Market at Birch Bay Beer Cave in Blaine, WA on 7-4-25 for $22.49. Canned 4-24-25; consumed 7-8-25. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured chilled gold with a nice white head with the original pour.

Nose is giving me a floral and citrus hopping that is not super aromic.

Taste is a pale malt base with some Pilsner malt. Hopping is almost candy like as I am getting some watermelon, peach, and strawberry. The back end has some rind; 6/10 on my bitterness scale. Getting Jolly Rancher sweetness in the post sip aspirations.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and fairly refreshing.

Overall this is too fruity for the style and is more ale like than lager like.

This beer pours a light golden color that is quite clear with a medium carbonated head that dissipates quickly. It has an aroma of light malt and a tropical citrus hop. Taste is strong hop, which Ninkasi is known for. The hop taste is not overpowering and finishes smooth with a little bite. Does not taste like an Imperial IPA as the mouthfeel is light. Very good beer. Rated 3-22-2023

12oz can of Ninkasi's imperial cold IPA, dated 11/13/24. Frosty yellow gold, mostly clear, with thin head. Fresh green hop aroma with grass and stone fruit. Clean and bitter on the palate with more grapefruit and maybe papaya? Super crisp and dry in the finish. Perfectly suited for an IPL. I'm happy to have picked up this addition to Ninkasi's family of IPAs.

Poured from a 12 ounce can dated 4-4-24 into a Teku glass at 51 degrees.

Look- Pale gold, moderately hazy, sudsy white head, average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Clementine, pine, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Clementine, grapefruit, pine, very pithy, very herbaceous, medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Medium body, average carbonation, harsh astringency, moderately creamy, moderately bitter, highly dry finish.

Overall- Pale gold with moderate haze, average head retention and lacing. Bouquet was a mix of clementine and pine. Taste was a very herbaceous and pithy mix of grapefruit, clementine and pine. Medium body with excessive astringency and moderate creaminess and bitterness. Overall this beer provided a well below average drinking experience due to the harsh astringency.

Really digging this one. Great summer beer. Clear pour with a light straw color. Beautiful, clean smells of fresh citrus and tropical fruit. Fresh and clean taste, loaded with fruit . A touch of resin and hops on the finish. Insanely drinkable Cold IPA, delicious and almost unbeatable for the price.

19.2oz can from Albertsons. Clear golden pour, skin of white foamy head. Light hoppy aroma, piney, citrus peel. Taste is melon, pine, minor astringency and a subtle strength.

Clear amber brew with ample foam in the Chimay chalice. Big aroma of lime and lemon. This has such a blast of hops-- and such a familiar taste from way back somewhere. Rated at 60 IBUs. Big citrus taste with alcohol like a heat lamp on the tongue. But clean and not too acidic. The fruit and the hot tang make for a decent sipping brew. Resiny aromatics into the aftertaste. From the 19.2 oz can purchased for under four bucks at the supermarket.

Look: Bright orange and nearly clear in the glass and my pour jump starts a frothy white head that settles to a pillow, leaving great lacing behind as it does
Aroma: Cara cara oranges, peach, raspberries, floral notes, light pineapple, mandarins, some papaya, kiwi, and bread-driven malt
Taste: Kicks off with pineapple, peach, and citrus fruit that hit hard up front and quickly followed by peach and raspberries that shine quickly before blending in. Tropical fruit and flowers hold serve next and develop depth only to be rejoined by citrus and peach for the close, along with a light bite
Mouthfeel: Full but light feeling, clean, medium-high carbonation, and a clean finish with a hint of dryness
Overall: I’m digging this one. I’m honestly surprised that these folks hadn’t dabbled in the ‘Cold IPA’ realm given their affinity and skill with hoppy beers but glad they finally did as this is tasty stuff. Similar to others, this has a ton of aromas and flavors going on in such a clean and dangerously drinkable Imperial IPA. Kudos Ninkasi and I’ll be back for more

can into glass
Moderate amount of medium bubbled, white head. Clear, light amber appearance. Balanced mix of spiced, herbal, pine and mixed citrus peel, on a medium toasted and caramelized malt base, for the aroma. Very pronounced grapefruit peel flavor and bite up front, with a body, a little light, even for a regular IPA. The medium toasted malt takes a backseat here.
