growler from b2 taphouse in south salem. says barrel aged, bar staff said it was subtle, and they were right. just a hint of aging, so a bit disappointed there, but . . . a very tasty brew. yummy hints of plums and currants in the nose and taste, deep red/molasses color, hides abv well. mouthfeel is nicely smooth. goes wonderfully with tillamook cheddar as a late night treat. definitely one to end the evening with. recommended

Nice appearance covers the glass like thin motor oil. A bit more body would be nice but all and all very nice. The nose is a bit light, sweet and roasty bit of coffee smell. A good warm up to the tasting experience but I would have enjoyed a bit more nose to set the sails on this brew. The taste was very nice chewy roasty toasty coffee flavors. Rolls over the tongue very smoothly. Not overly bitter well balanced, not alot of aftertaste but just enough to carry me through to the next sip. Overall I have enjoyed this beer quite a bit and would both recommend and buy again. Good effort and well up there with the RIS family.

Served on tap from a tasting tray at Ninkasi on 5/12/12.
A: dark pretty much black with no visibility, a little bit of dark deep amber hints in the light. Mocha colored head leaving good lacing.
S: Roasty malt and a hint of coffee. This beer smells sweet. Not much hops on the nose. The wood peeks through a little bit, just teasing you.
T: vanilla, wood, dark and chocolate malt, and a little coffee. a sweet beer, but not cloying. The alcohol makes itself known in this beer for sure. Despite not being big on the nose the hops rounds out the flavor at the end.
M: full bodied with a hefty chew. Sort of like drinking maple syrup but beer flavored.
O: Tasty beer, an improvement on the regular Imperiale. Might be too sweet for most but makes a good dessert/cheese course beer.
