16oz glass, an offering that springs from the workings of the tiny pilot 'brewery' spewing steam and cool from the front windows of this downtown establishment.
This beer appears a clear, dark ruby amber colour, with one actual finger of wanly puffy, tightly foamy, and mildly bubbly beige head, which leaves some solid mountain range lace around the glass as it gently subsides.
It smells of rather sugary and sweet caramel/toffee malt, subtle pine and red grapefruit citrus bitters, somehow distinct Mars Bars, and further herbal, leafy, and well perfumed hops. The taste is bready, doughy caramel malt, muddled citrus and pine resin astringency, and really just some harsh alcohol esters.
The bubbles are low-key in their painfully supportive and nothing more frothiness, the body a decent medium-heavy weight, and generally smooth, with a wee attendent creaminess. It finishes sweet, hoppy, and just a tad boozy.
Not a bad brew, the implied concept of 'balance' a funny one, for sure. Boozy, in a manageable sense, I suppose, but drinkable if you've got time and/or brain cells to kill. I heard that this was supposed to be a barley wine, but I can really see that this is pretty much just Arrogant Bastard, writ not so large in Sandpoint.
