a really nicely done imperial stout with toasted coconut, unserious name but serious liquid, gorgeous base beer and the coconut profile is awesome, maybe the best beer ive ever had from these guys, and first from them in some time, very good. the coconut is responsible for much of its greatness i think, and the base beer is well built to support it, both texturally and in terms of flavor, like there is good bitterness from the roasted barley to balance the natural coconut sweetness to its not too much of one or the other. there are complimentary chocolate and coffee notes in it, which both enhance and complicate the coconut in nice ways at different moments of this, and the body isnt too huge so that some of the oily fleshy coconut character can actually be appreciated, intentional or not its a nice result for the mouthfeel. the toasted aspect of the coconut is nice with the middle malts where layers of caramel and biscuit are evident, and its robust and obvious without being overdosed, its still a beer. the ferment is pretty clean, just the right amount of residual sugar is preserved, and i dont mind it being a little lighter on carbonation, it kind of works to extend this pleasantly, the aftertaste is awesome, dark chocolate and rich coconut. seems like quality ingredients here, nice balance, smooth and long, slick even with the coconut oils in the mix, up front coconut the whole way, very natural, sneaky strong, it doesnt drink hotly alcoholic at all. they should be proud of this one!
