On draught at the brewpub, served in a shaker pint (my kind of pub!), Barley O'Gnarly is a ruddy caramel with an off-white head that leaves sticky lace. Really nice glow.
Smell is deep and rich, a really nice nuttiness to it, some vanilla and mulling spices too, bread pudding, yum!
Taste is really pretty great, satisfying depth of flavor, yet, like all of their beers I've had, exceptional balance and drinkability. I've been tiring of the cloying feel of BWs lately, but there's no problem here. Nice hop spice, hint of citrus there too, with toffee malt, creme brulee comes to mind, awesome. Very clean.
Mouthfeel is dry, medium light body (for the size).
Drinkability is high. This brewery is really blowing my mind, I'm impressed to the point of being a little dumbfounded! Luckily, I'll be here all week, which will give me ample opportunity to reassess!
