When old crusty's in bars tell you that certain esoteric beers are good, you've got to take what they say at face value. Are their eyes crossed as they say this? Are they asking you for money or favors? Or do they really just like beer?
Well, I took one particular friendly old fellows advice and make the trek to Barley Island to pick up their seasonal scotch ale which said Old Crusty vouched for. And goddamn, was he right.
Darjeeling tea color tinted with heady scarlet. 1/4" head with progression lacing.
Hints of single-malt, peat, the sea. Breezy, caramel malts atop warm, fluffy chewiness. Bready biscuity malts disguise the belly warming strength.
Surprising, almost off-putting bitterness for the style. Still, a hugely drinkable Scotch ale.
This all calms down into something even better when at cellar temperature. The bar napkin to which I dictated this review ends "F'in Fantastic!"

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
