Cask-conditioned and poured into a pint glass. Sampled at the Carlisle Pub.
A - Poured a deep brown, almost black. Since it was cask-conditioned, a 1-inch head lingered atop the beer for the entire time we spent together; it started as a larger, foamy beige head but eventually (after about 20 minutes..) simmered down.
S - Sweet - but bitter - malt. A little on the stale side, which weakened the aroma.
T - I sure do love beer that's on cask! But anyway...the flavors all try to degate each other - bitter hops with sweet malt, then a dark/bitter chocolate with a sweet cocoa...the complexities work very well together. Finish is more on the sweet side than bitter, but very well-balanced.
M - Wonderful cask-feel...unsure how to describe it other than I appreciate the beer more from cask because the flavors truly come alive. I love the feeling.
D - This really hit the spot, but only as an occasional selection...haven't had many cask-conditioned yet, so I don't want to overdo it! Very good selection. The Naked Porter is the regular Pub Porter without the added raspberry flavor. Any of the Market Cross house selections are worth the trip, so naturally I'll recommend it!
