This for me was a beer that just about got it all together.
As other reviewers have mentioned the more than faint but subdued metallic hints take away from the malty roundness that begins on the palate.
It also takes away from a clean sharpness that you half expect is going to happen.
It teases you and just fails to deliver on the tease.
However a pleasant lager , which would suit being icy cold on a very warm day

An improvement on my first review at the Australian Beer Festival.
Interesting packaging, a bit like James Squire's story-telling.
A fairly malt-driven beer, like a Northern German lager or somesuch. There are some hints of "Old World" hops in there.... but there is a metallic hoppiness that also implies PoR.
Quite balanced, and certainly a worthy entrant in the premium Aussie Macro niche.

I had this first at a restaurant on Newcastle Harbour and remember liking it a lot. This time it's from the bottle and it pours clean with a short head that lasted briefly with no lacing. Colour was deep amber, clear and bright. Hardly any aroma even off the initial head. This one has a nicely balanced maltiness with slight hops and understated bitterness. I agree with lacqueredmouse about the "mineral water spritz". Carbonation is low to moderate but persistent till the end. This is a fairly understated lager with a pleasant mouthfeel and I enjoyed drinking it a lot. I supposes there are many more complex and interesting lagers but I reckon I could stay with this all night.

Tried on tap at the Australian Beer Festival, Sydney. 1st October 2006...
Amber gold colour, minimal fizzy head. Not a great look, but reasonably expected for the style.
Quite a bland aroma. A little clean hoppiness, but very, very muted. It's not bad, but far from impressive.
The taste is better. Quite a good malty backbone, but definitely influenced by a kind of mineral water spritz. A little bitterness, but not a great deal.
Not overly impressed, but it does have a little character to it...
