Pours a two finger cream head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving a some lace. Cloudy red/amber color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Starts and finishes sour, hops are there but barely. Not what I was expecting for a red ale. $3.65 for a 22oz bottle from Liquid Solutions Tigard, Or.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this...
Appears a murky dark amber with a small tan head that quiclkly fades. Lots of lacing all over the glass.
Smell is of dirty fermented plum juice.
Taste is of the same aromas with a funny taste that seems slightly sour and off.
Mouthfeel is slightly sour and bitter with a slight gritty feel hitting on the middle and sides of the tongue.
Drinkability is ok. I wouldn't buy it but I'm glad I'm I got a chance to try it.

Hazy, dark butterscotch without any red that I can appreciate, highlights or otherwise (but then redheads don't really have red hair, do they?) The impressive looking crown of orange tinted, pale caramel foam is rockier than most with a blunted mesa occupying the center of the glass. Thick squiggles of lace cover more than 50% of the available surface area and are even more impressive on subsequent pours. There isn't much wrong with the way this redhead looks.
The nose is primarily caramel malty and doesn't seem to have skimped on the hops. Orange and peach are uppermost. It's nicely fruity, but the typical American hop grapefruit and pine are nowhere to be found. The aroma is a little lacking in personality, but only a little.
Redhead Ale is an interesting take on the red ale style. It isn't quite as malty as I had hoped, nor is it as hoppy. A ingredient infusion would help. There's certainly no lack of sweetness, which is odd because it doesn't taste like a sweetness born of malt. There's also plenty of (somewhat sour) fruitiness, although it doesn't seem to be a fruitiness born of hops. Sweet and sour just about covers it.
If anything, the amount of sourness ramps up throughout the finish, stopping just short of mouth-puckering. Hops outlast malt, so why is there such a lack of bitterness? The body is medium for the style with a quiescent, low carbonation feel.
Although my wife is a blonde, I prefer brunettes. Redheads never really did much for me. Oh, sorry... back to beer. This Siletz offering is a decent version of the style, but that's as far as I'm willing to go. The brewers would have been much better off adding more malt and more hops and creating a plus-size redhead rather than the trim little waif that is Redhead Ale.

mmmm an odd beer all round from the very nice and dare i say sexy screen print label on the bomber..to the taste.
A very nice beer to look at in the glass, amber with a nice sized tan head, attractive carbonation.
the smell is very malty and buttery for some reason this is not unpleasant but intrigueing.
Taste again i get some nice malt then this buttery popcorn flavour which might throw some off..but I like it..after that there is a slight bitterness..that holds on in the throat for a few secs.
Pretty smooth on the palate.
An odd beer..but I liked it.

Redhead replaces the now defunct Siletz Ordinary Bitter (SOB). Its vocation is as a simple work-a-day session beer brewed to popular tastes. Since I dont often share popular tastes its not surprising that this one held limited appeal to me.
Redheads head is sporadic with a clear body and some reluctant lace. It is described as being of ruby red color, but I was served an ale of golden oak with no hint of red at all. The malty sweetness also described on the menu is absent, replaced by a broad bitter platform whose taste can be likened to that of a best bitter.
This is a simple, functional beer with a faintly yeasted aroma, though Siletz offers numerous beers of greater artistry.
