Siletz's relatively late entry into the realm of pale ales reminds me of Maryanne Moore's line from The Big Lebowski where she refers to sex as, "a natural, ZESTY enterprise." Zesty indeed. That's how the Jester struck me with its distinctive hop flavor and specialty malts suggestive of tobacco leaf. You might say it's got a bit of a tang.

Jester's body is clear brilliant gold though it yields scant head or lace, and even that doesn't last. There's also no emergent smell to note, at least none strong enough to compete with the smoke at the Siletz roadhouse.

Definitely not a routine pale. Perhaps knowing this, the brewers opted for the taunting name. The taste is hard to define but comes across as leafy with a touch of marshmallow root. For what it's worth, this one's the bartender's favorite.
