Poured from a growler into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark walnut brown with little light transmission in the glass and a thin khaki head that dissipates to a thin film with light lacing. Aroma of dark malt with a hint of char, nuts and light molasses and coffee. Flavor follows, with dark, lightly toasted malt with a little char, hazelnuts, molasses, light cocoa and coffee. Nutty coffee finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. It's been a while since I've had a hazelnut brown, one of my go to styles for a long time in the past. This one hits all the flavor notes I'd expect for this style, with a pleasant, low impact toasted malt, authentic hazelnut and some good cocoa and coffee in the finish. A bit muted for the ABV, but the flavor is so well balanced and friendly it is a nice example of the style.
