Sampled at Toronado 2009 Barleywine Festival.
Cool name. Pours murky brackish brown with thin tan head. The aroma is muted figs and dates to go along with hints of wood, molasses and vanilla. The taste begins with equal amounts of pine hop bitterness and flavor as well as figs, cherries and dates. Very nice. It ends modestly dry with lingering pine hops and sticky malts.

Picked this up an a random stop in Modesto and was surprised at the large barley wine bottle. No ABV on the bottle or year so not sure when I picked it up. It is a standard EBW - thinner, maltier and lower alcohol than the ABW. The tastes are sweet, bready with a dry hoppy bitterness. This beer will not win any awards but it isn' t bad. Nice place with a checkered past but this showed some guts since most brewers shy away from BWs.
