From the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This rich beasty pours a shimmering opaque
with a beautiful head of brown dissipating foam that subsides to a thick ring,
subtle clumping pool, and shows some nice soapy lacing. Nose of char, dark
cocoa, dark fruit notes, burnt cream, intense coffee, and heavy caramel with
moderate pine tinged hop notes. Flavors show an excellence of brewing technique
that reminds me of my first heavy duty version of Bells Expedition stout with layers
of char and deep roast over touches of dark fruited notes of blueberries and
raspberries that are immolated on heavy doses of bakers cocoa, rich earthy
coffee, and heavy pine that is touched with burnt cream. Excellent mouth feel;
full body, light carbonation, slick, smooth, creamy, and robust with a rich finish
of char touched melodies.
Exceptional as always from a fantastic brewery that got me through some tough
times living in Columbus.
Cheers!

750 ml bottle, 2017 vintage (pretty sure this was a November 2017 release). Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stayed around for a little while. There's also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like burnt/charred malt, bittersweet chocolate, piney hops, coffee, and a bit of dark fruit. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, with burnt/charred malt, bittersweet chocolate, smoke, coffee, piney hops, and some dark fruit and molasses flavors all noticeable. Gets a little sweeter as it warms but I think it's still mostly charred/bitter/hoppy/roasty tasting. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's creamy and coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. Not as boozy as I was expecting for being 13% ABV. I thought this was a pretty good imperial stout! Definitely recommend this one to people who like charred, roasty, and hoppy stouts. Might have to buy another bottle of this to age. $15.99 a bottle.
