Poured from the tap into a wine style tasting glass.
Appearance- Beer pours a darkened brown with a whiskey red hue shining through the darkness. Lacing is non-present headwise, but there are legs dripping down the sides from significant alcohol.
Smell- Whoa. Whiskey and dark malts. There is no mistaking that this is a porter which is usually the main grip I have for Baltic Porters. Lots of times there will be that Baltic porter that tastes like a stout. Not so here, an almost perfumey fruitiness on the scent.
Taste- Wow. Whickey is no joke on this one. Jack Daniels with a warming porter mouthfeel. This is one impressive beer. A hint of oak, but mostly just the whiskey. A sweet hint from the malts peek through. The smell is actually more impressive than the taste.
Mouthfeel- Warming, low-carbonation, medium-full bodied, lightly astringent from all that high alcohol warmth.
Drinkability- Alcohol warmth really takes away from the overall drinkability. After sampling, I asked the server what kind of barrels were used. He told me Jim Beam, but I'm not so sure I believe him.
