Not bad. True to style, tasty, nothing to offend. Commendable. On the critical side, there's nothing particularly noteworthy about this beer either. It is dark, it has a faint tan head, it smells roasty, it tastes mildly roasty and of dark malt, and it finishes nice and dry in your mouth. There is a touch of coppery metallicness that seems just a touch off, but other than that, this beer was pretty good but not terribly out of the ordinary.

Solid. I'd have it again, but I wouldn't make a special trip for it. I had it on tap at Elevator.

A nice little Porter that was a standout during my recent Elevator visit.

The beer begins with a clear dark brown that allows some light to penetrate. Light tan head forms ontop of the beer and settles in for the session. Light lacing throughout. Light and simple aromas of toasted breads, toffee, cocoa powder, nuts and light coffee. A subtle (phenolic?) campfire-ish note comes in late as the beer warms. The sweet toffee, cocoa, toffee, and nuts follow the beer into the flavors and leave the harsh toast, coffee, and campfire notes to fade through the session. A little maltier than most other Elevator beers with hints of melanoidins and creaminess in the mouthfeel. Finishes a bit sweet but balanced with the dry cocoa and coffee bitterness in the end.

The beer doesn't have much of a hop presence but doesn't need it for balance. A phenolic-spicy note rides the beer throughout.

Poured from the tap into a wine style tasting glass.

Appearance- Beer pours a dark brown red with a tiny ring of carbonation around the sides. Lacing clings for a bit but doesn't linger.

Smell- Now this smells like a good smoky porter. A bit sweet with chocolate malts, rich and just that hint of rauch malt. It also smells a bit light as if the beer were lagered.

Taste- Very acceptable. Hints of Worchestire, chocolate, cream, milk, smoke, bacon, black patent malts, roasted non-malted barley, lightly buttery. Very similar to a good steak, just needs a little blood flavouring and maybe some steak sauce.

Mouthfeel- Creamy, medium-full bodied, well-carbonated, smoky, smooth, and well balanced.

Drinkability- An excellent beer for the drinking needs, which is great because that's the reason I came to the bar in the first place. This is a porter I will revisit here.

The Porter was served in a standard pint. It was dark brown with a tight tan head. Nice sheets of lacing.

The nose is of brown sugar, roasted malts and dark fruit.

The taste reminded me of sugared plums, coffee, molasses and slightly smoky malts.

The mouth is a trifle thin and the beer is served to cold, but these are fairly minor flaws. Easy drinker here!

Porters are often overlooked, but this is an example of why they shouldn't be.

Pours a dark brown, with some ruby highlights. Actually, it is kind of hard to tell in the lighting. Anyway, nice tan foamy head. Smells of a rich, deep roasted toffee.Taste of a dark roasted malt, with some coffee highlights. This is a little thin I feel, but overall nicely done. Pretty drinkable too. This has been a long time favorite of mine at the Elevator.

Served as a sample at the Elevator Brewery. The color was a dark brown, with some white head. The smell was a nice coffee malt. The taste had a decent amount of coffee notes to it. Mouthfeel was slightly heavy, but didn't seem too dragging. Drinkability-wise, definitely a few of these.

One of my favorite beers from Elevator, and an example of the best style out of Columbus (at least on the day I went). A quality porter, and one I certainly hope to have again.

Pours an opaque brownish-black color with a thin beige head. Aroma of malt and nuts. Medium-bodied, and I was struck by a cinnamon flavor out of nowhere which made this an interesting Porter to say the least. Behnid the cinnamon were the more expected flavors of chocolate and malt. Finish still had some cinnamon, along with light hops and nuts. Overall pretty good, and I like the name too.

This beer came an opaque black with a tan head that was resilient and laced exceedingly well. The flavor was smokey and rich. The nose of of toasted malt and, though a bit thin, left a good imperssion. This is really a very nice porter even though the body is a bit thin.

This beer poured a very dark amber/garnet color. Medium tan head that didn't hold with little lace. Slight malt aroma. A sweet flavor, but couldn't place it, probably hindered by the mild aroma. A fairly light body for a porter. Interesting finish to it. Really can't recommend this as a porter unless you prefer them lighter.
