I went to Lubbock on a business trip, and our client took us here for dinner one evening.

Atmosphere - This has your normal chain steakhouse vibe. Nothing stood out about the place, but it was clean and comfortable, which is a baseline for a solid experience.

Service - We had good service all evening. Despite a large party, the waiter was attentive, polite, and the food came out about when I expected it. He gave pretty solid descriptions about their house beers as well.

Selection - They had about 6-8 tap beers, but the only non-house beer they had was Miller Lite. I tried two different beers. Neither was impressive, but it wasn't bad either. They did have a solid variety of styles to choose from as their beers didn't overlap each other, and they didn't offer multiples of the same style.

Food - It's pretty run-of-the-mill chain steakhouse food as well, but the food was good. The pre-meal rolls were tasty, and I enjoyed the steak salad I ordered. I'd order it again if I visit.

Value - Reasonably priced restaurant on par with Outback, Chilis, etc.

Overall this was a pretty solid experience. There's absolutely nothing that would pull me back, but I have nothing bad to say about the place either.

Food: Stopped by over 'spring break' around 6:30pm and was instantly seated. Had dinner and 2 beers. I got a 10oz fillet, medium rare was cooked properly, but another person I was with had their steak slightly overcooked. They got the same 10oz fillet medium rare but it was more like a medium. The mashed potatoes I got with my steak were really good.

Beer: I had a pint of the windmill wheat before I got my steak and had what they called '806 stout' with my steak. The windmill wheat was pretty good but the stout was a dry stout which I really was not expecting and was disappointing. It was really watery, even for a dry stout. I was really surprised they did not have a porter.

Stopped in here for an early dinner on 31 Jan 2011.

Ok I have been sitting here for ten minutes trying to figure out what to write about this visit... Quite average in most respects, nothing to complain about, nothing to really recommend. The one thing that really stands out is the very odd Chocolatefest beer, which the server said was supposed to be an amber but was most definitely not an amber, didn't have any chocolate qualities about it and was strangely herbally syrupy sweet.

We tried the beer sampler, a salad and pepperoni pizza. Beers were average or below, salad and pizza decent. Overall this place would be out of business in any reasonably beer centric town, but this is Lubbock...

A says she liked the building and thought it had a nice cozy atmosphere.

Was in town for my wifes cousin's wedding, went by afterwards. We were seated immedietly, most of the staff (almost everyone but our server was very friendly, he wasn't very attentive). Seemed like an older building, could be a neat place if the beer wasn't awful.

The only had 3 beers, the White Gold Cream Ale, Dusseldorf and Bavarian Wheat. I had a Bavarian Wheat which was mediocre, not bad though. I had samples of the others the cream ale and Dusseldorf tasted off.

We also had the nachos, a bizarre dish of wonton like chips (why not just use corn chips like everyone else?) covered with brisket (which was good) greasy white cheese, black olives and tomatos. That's the only food we had, but it was bad. Hopefully the food we didn't try is better.

It wasn't too expensive, and again most of the staff was friendly. Hopefully the quality of the beers improves at some point.

Was in town for a tour of Texas Tech with my son. Last time I was at this place it was Hub City. We got there about 6:30pm on a Friday night and were told the wait would be 45-75 minutes. We headed to the bar so I could try the beers, and listened to the live jazz band while we waited. Beers on tap were a White Gold Cream Ale, Dusseldorf (I'm assuming an Alt), APA, Raider Red, and a Bavarian Wheat. I tried the Dusseldorf (nothing like any Alt I have had, tasted more like a weak Heffe) and the APA (which was just ok). We were seated within about 20 min. It took the waitress long enough to get to us that we had had time to review the menu and placed our orders when she took our drink order. Our salads arrived and were consumed before she passed by our table and I mentioned we still didn't have our drinks. She was very apologetic and brought them right over. I had the beef tips with a baked potato, loaded. They were cheap with the toppings on the potato, it was dry. My son had the cedar-plank grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and it was very good. The place is a little more upscale than it used to be. It was very loud with as many people were there and the live music going. I would have had at least one more beer if our server had stopped by our table more often to check on us. She was nice to look at (especially as she walked away), but she was no as attentive as I expect when I'm paying for someone to cook my food. It isn't a great place, but worth a stop to check it out.

Atmosphere: we got a seat adjacent to the kitchen, which meant that I often got a great view of the open ovens belching out large flames and a decent amount of smoke. The pyro in my approved.

Quality: I'm taking this to mean quality of the beer. Unfortunately, not what I was hoping. Someone mentioned once that a recent change in ownership ended up leaving the beer tasting soapy, and they hit the nail squarely on the head. I tried a cream ale first, as I figured I'd see how it compared to my home town's flagship brew (Genny Cream Ale). I'd call it creamier than Genny - almost cream soda-ish. Followed it up with an IPA, and that's where the trouble hit. It just wasn't good. There was clearly potential for a good brew hiding in there, but the soapy taste destroyed it.

Service: our server was very attentive, and often joked around with us. When she heard me mention Cream Ale as a hometown brew, she told me that the brewer is a Rochester native, and another server just moved from a nearby suburb for school. 1700 miles from home, and I'm being introduced to my old neighbors. Cool!

Selection: I didn't even ask what they had in bottles; that's not what I went to a brewpub for. Every wheat beer that they brew was currently off the menu, so the selection that day was limited to IPA, Pale Ale, Porter, Winter Warmer, Raider Red, and the cream ale. Since it was a slightly chilly day when I went, I was hoping for a pint of their stout - no such luck.

Food: ordered the Marg-er-marita pizza. The crust wasn't my favorite style, but it was well made for the type, so I can't fault them on not happening to meet my personal preferences. The overall taste of the toppings, though, was fantastic. With just a slightly different crust, I might actually call it the best pizza I've ever had.

Overall impression: I'll probably go back, if for no other reason than to know that I'm supporting people from back home. And as only one of the two beers that I tried had the soapy taste going on, I'm willing to try another pint or two of other varieties to see if it was just the IPA that was impacted.

Atmosphere: Nice looking place. Kind of a rustic setting but new and clean. Saturday night they had live music, a James Taylor cover act, at a nice volume where you could still carry on conversations. Brewing room visible behind glass.

Quality: Beers were well made without any major flaws, but toward the bottom end of the style profiles. I think they are going for the masses rather than the beer geeks, which is a viable business model (if a little disappointing to this beer geek).
Had the samplers (which they would only give me 4 beers out of the 6 they had on tap, which just meant two rounds).

Selection: They had a Wheat (American, not Hefe), An Irish Red (good middle of the road), a Cream Ale (a bit watery for my tastes), an APA (under hopped ,but good, just a touch of butterscotch in the finish), a Porter (good) and a Stout (my pick, nicely roasted, just a touch of American hops).
I hate to second guess the business model, but having Miller Lite (I think that was the macro) on tap and all the BMC beers in bottles just doesn't sit right with me as a brewpub. Guess they have to pay the bills, but it's disappointing.

Food: Appetizers were really good. My honey pepper rib eye had a nice flavor but the cut of meat wasn't outstanding. The sweet potato custard had way too much brown sugar on top, and the "shoestring potatoes" were just thin limp fries. Still, it was all pretty good and the group I was with enjoyed their meals.

All in all, if you're in Lubbock, stop by and check them out.

Beer selection: Good, particularly considering it's a dry town and this is the only brewpub around. Not a lot of high-gravity offerings, but the Dunkelweizen and spiced strong ale I had were both excellent. The Koelsch was likewise very good, though not really to style (too malty, missing that traditional Koelsch fruitiness). I understand that the owners kept the brewmaster from the old brewpub (Hub City) and I can see why.

Atmosphere: The emphasis seems to be more on the chophouse and less on the brewery. That being said, I would call it sort of an upscale casual. Nice but nothing too unique.

Service: This is where they screwed the pooch. They didn't have any description of their beers, so when I asked what their 6.1% "Winter Wheat" was, I was told it was a mix of their regular wheat and a stout. Um, no. Maybe others disagree, but I expect a server at a brewpub to be able to at least tell me the correct style of a beer. And if you don't know, ask somebody else; don't just make stuff up. Overall the staff seemed to be college kids (not unexpected in Lubbock) who were only going to do the minimum to draw a paycheck.

Food: Their steak selection was small for a chophouse, and the ribeye I had was mediocre by Chicago standards, let alone Lubbock standards. My friend's smoked porkchop didn't meet the description (applesauce is not the same as baked apples). Given the price, and the plethora of great steakhouses in West Texas, I was expecting much more.

Overall: Stop by for beers at the bar (and/or take a growler to go), and go grab dinner somewhere else.

Stopped in today while in town on business. Not crowded but it was the mid-late afternoon between lunch and happy hour. Tried 5 of their beers and found all of them very agreeable. The Winterfest was, by far, the best one, but I like a hoppy beer and the spices went well with it.

The pizzas are very good. Nice, thin crust that stayed crunchy. One was a little oily on top but still very good.

Atmosphere matched most of the typical brewpubs I've visited. Not as eclectic as some of the small town breweries but not the stereotypical chain brewpub atmosphere either.

Overall, it was a nice stop over to get a decent craft brew. The food was good and although the majority of their current brews were fairly mild they were good. They didn't have a current IPA so that was a little disappointing. I had the pizza on the bartenders recommendation and would have to agree with him that it does go well with all of their beers.

A total face lift from the previous atmosphere of Hub City Brewery. Now owned by Joe and John of Bigham's Smokehouse. The interior has improved to a more decorative restaurant. Now more of a restaurant than brewery, the brewer from Hub City is still here. A constant blaring of crappy country music reminds that you are most definitely in West Texas.

Currently they have a large selection of 8 different brews. Had a sampling of all of them and they were all good. The Irish Red was my least favorite, but I'm not a big fan of that syle anyways.

The downsides of this place are the hours of business, which is now more restaurant like hours instead of brewery/brewpub hours. They close at 10pm through the weekdays, and midnight on the weekends. The prices of the beers are about the same, but the growler prices have increased considerably. They also charge $2 extra if you fill up another brewery's growlers, which is a total slap in the face for the craft beer community, because it should be about the beer, and not the label on the growler.

Don't know what to say about the food. Only ordered 1 appetizer, which were the Sidewinders. A japapeno stuffed with cheese and a shrimp, breaded, and deep fried. It was good, but have no idea about their other menu items.

Overall, I would love to come back regularly. The happy hour prices on the house beers are of good value and great quality. Though it is the only brewpub in Lubbock, I wouldn't mind if there was another one in town that focused more on beer than the food.

very nice place, very nice servers. I tried a couple of their beers. I was not disappointed. They were very good. And they were 2.50 a pint. That's a pretty good price. They have a nice selection of homebrewed beers. They said throughout the year they hope to brew about 30 different styles. Not too bad.

Much more of a restaurant than a bar. The bar area is very small. The only other bad thing about the restaurant is the fact that the servers didn't know as much about beer as the brewers did, because they didn't know what a growler was and weren't very familair with all the various styles offered (i.e. they weren't super into beer.)

They just got growlers in. Fairly good price. I'm happy about it.

Food is decent. I had some good food there and some less than stellar. In depends on what you get.

This place changed their taps all the time. It's crazy. They have some comeback stuff when it is popular enough to be asked for. I miss the dry hopped pale ale.

EDIT: 9-18-07- Beers served in chilled glasses. Ask for warm glass. They only have pint glasses which can fuck up certain beer styles. I plan to talk to the brewmaster about this. Why serve beer in the wrong glass, which is chilled no less?
