Not sure this is an English stout. Intense bitterness, nice chocolate and prune malt aromas.

Tried from a 75cl bottle at Cipolla Rossa in Firenze.

Pours a deep brown colour, with reddish hints, and solid hazing that makes it opaque at the more dense parts. Body is solid, without much carbonation. It's all worked up into the head, which is foamy beige on the pour, but sticks it out with a frothy persistence. Lacing is intricate. Looks good.

Toasty, malty and rich on the nose, with a fragrance to lift it beyond the ordinary. Slight savoury tones add an umami mystery to the mix. There's lots going on here, and the aroma is big—it hits you right from the start and it's very exciting.

Relatively light entry o the palate, with some light spicy malt characters and a suggestion of roast. This leads to a solid, more approachable mid-palate, filled with clean brown malt and a fragrant yeast character, almost giving it Belgian tones and some fruitiness. The back drops out quite suddenly. This makes it rather clean on the finish at least and aids the drinkability, but there was the space to go big and bold here.

Feel is a little flat, but it's not bad, and certainly not out of place in a beer like this.

Overall, it's a really solid, very drinkable and very enjoyable beer. The malt character in the beer is really well constructed, and there's lots to enjoy. Certainly something I'd try again.

Picked this up while on vacation in Siena, Italy. Very dark brown, nearly black pour with a hint of ruby when held to the light. Two finger caramel-colored head with decent retention and good lacing. Very earthy, roasty, malty nose with hints of toffee, coffee, caramel, and just a touch of chocolate and smoke. The taste follows suit with a huge roasty malt backbone. And as it warms it really opens up with hints of coffee, nuts, chocolate, toffee, tobacco, and a touch of herbal tea. The mouthfeel is smooth as silk with a nice dry, subtle bitterness on the finish. Overall this was another surprisingly bold, flavorful, and well balanced Italian beer.

This beer pours a solid black color with a slight tan head. It looks like a brew of substance. The aroma is quite nice too...a small chocolate note, follwed by a very intense roasted barley smell. Lot's of charred, highly roasted scents. No real hop aroma, but there is a scent of roasted malt. A bit of caramel too. The taste builds on the roasted flavors. There's a really nutty, chocolate and coffee flavor that runs through the beer. It's moderately dry, and still has very little hop character. The finish is balanced and the mouthfeel is full and just shy of creamy. This one is pretty good.

It has a very black color, beige head, not too much, stout-like, not bad.
The smell is a good toastiness, smooth, creamy.
Quite smooth taste, a light toasted notes, a bit watery.
Toasted aftertaste, and in the back, it is chocolately,
