Appearance - The beer pours a clear red/brown colour with a fairly large fizzy beige head. There is a low to average amount of carbonation showing, and there really isn't much lacing. The head stuck around for several minutes before it was gone.

Smell - roasted malts, citrus zest, wheat/barley

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a decent amount of carbonation, lots of little bubbles on the tongue. It has a really earthy flavour and lots of roasted/toasted malts. It comes across as almost smoky. It also has a slight metallic taste and finishes with a bitter sweet caramel flavour

Drink - It's an okay beer, I definitely wouldn't seek it out again. I also agree with some of the other reviewers that the beer has a sort of 'rusty' taste.. and a salty finish.

Now here is a small, somewhat growing microbrewery.
In Mont-Tremblant they brewed about 300 000 liters of beer in 2009 compared to about 200 000 liters in 2008. Quite easy to find, la Rivière Rouge is a Red Ale from la microbrasserie Saint-Arnould.
A. Once poured, the beer gives a nice 2 fnger head but it doesn't stay to long witch is kind of disappointing. Its color is a pretty dark red
B. I can agree with the previous review on the notes of yeast in the smell. Theres floral notes as well as what I detected as Grappefruit.
C. Its has a little rusty taste at first that develops to the bitterness of the hop. It has a light taste that dosen't stick to much to the palate. So you need to take another sip because the taste is already gone

Tasted on January 22nd, 2009.

Pours as a dark amber color which is typical for red ale. In the aroma I detect some yeast?! just like a belgium beer... strange since nobody detected that in the other reviews. Probably the spiciness that mess up my nose. Very nice smell. Taste is just the same. Spices which I couldn't say which ones. Overall, the beer is rich and well balanced. I like it. The beer is easy to drink... very good session beer.

A - Very dark red, with some small bubbly head.
S - Lots of fruits and bubblegum scents of malts.
T - Some more bitter fruit, cranberry, raspberry, cherry and sour blueberry. Very malty beer, with a surprising amount of alcohol taste which becomes rather powerful in warming.
M - Rather thick beer. The heavy maltiness makes it cling to the back of the throat. Sruprisingly drying, but very nicely carbonated.
D - Considering its thickness, it is fairly sessionable.

341 ml bottle. Best before 06/2007.

A- Clear coppery-red. Smallish off-white head that is nice and foamy (small bubbled). Settle quickly but does not dissappear and leaves some lacing.

S- Fruity and caramel aromas. A good example of the style.

T- Fairly standard red ale. Caramel malt, roasted flavours with a hint of coffee. A tad watery in the middle. Nicley balanced hops finish.

MF- Good smooth ale with good body.

D- Good mouthfeel, pleasant, well balanced yet mild taste make this an easy beer to drink. An easygoing beer with flavour and a good example of the style. These types of beer always make me wonder why anybody drinks macro lagers as it proves you can have very good beer that isn't extreme or too much of an acquired taste.

Went very well with the homemade pizza I had it with.

Brownish orange colour,crystal clear, with a centimeter-high white cap.

Aroma is a bit sweet with lots of spicy and citrusy hop notes. Very appealing.

Some toasted malt flavours blend into tangy grapefruit hops. Quite short-lived, with very little aftertaste aside from a fain bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin and carbonation is moderate.

On the whole, a well balanced brew, although I find it a bit too watered-down for my tastes.

Pours a brilliantly clear amber color, it is topped by a thin, quickly disappearing tan colored head. The aroma is fruity up front with notes of raisins and cherries. There is also quite a bit of malt character here including notes of caramel, and a toasty biscuit like note.

The taste is lightly sweet, with a forward fruit character that reminds me currants and raisins. The finish has a dry toasted malt note to it that dries the mouth out a bit; it serves as a nice balance to the up front sweetness. This is a pretty nice easy drinking beer, I like the fruit notes and the malt is quite nice as well.

A "hand-crafted red ale" that is not bottle-conditioned, is 5.5% alcohol, and yet reads best before August 2006? Sketchy, but luckily it is not even close to that date.

Rust-colored with a collar and lace once the small off-white head dies down. Smell is cashews, toasted grain husk, hops with some fruitiness, butter, and a bit of roasted acidity. Flavor like caramel and toast. Slightly watery, metallic finish does not bother me. Medium body and low carbonation. Like their other beer that I just had, this ale has a lot of character and I enjoy it. It is not the type to blow anyone away, but certainly has its heart in the right place.

Bottle: Poured a dark red beer with a great head with standard retention. Carbonation is excellent. I appreciate the aroma of malts and quite strong spices. Taste is very refreshing with a bitter aftertaste that includes one spice that tasted like pepper? Overall, this is one is just above your standard red ale.

Bought at Marché du Boisé (boul. des Forges, T-R), 6/11/03, stored cool dark, 2600 miles in my trunk.

A smallish, cream-colored head sits on a clear amber/brown beer. There's some sticky thin lacing. This is pretty nice looking. The sweet, toffee nose is very nutty. So is the front. A tangy, sour middle shows some chocolate. And nuts. Extreme nuts on the dry, bitter finish. You know, this isn't bad. There's a bit of a strange grainy taste in there that I'm not crazy about. Almost like they for a Nouvelle France buckwheat thing. Oh well.
