reduced gluten beer from Liberty Station, and you wouldn't know it. the reps at the Pasadena outpost said the profile was based on SSR, but no dark malts. that build provides a bright, citrusy aroma with dusty, forest-like notes in the back that goes straight to pink grapefruit and tangerine across the palate. ale is slightly hazy amber, with a persistent head and residual lacing on the pint glass as the level drops (quickly, i might add). dry, bitter finish that is exceptionally pleasing to my taste profile, but perhaps a touch out of balance. while this one doesn't feel as full bodied as the SSR, the stripped away ipa has presence, and will linger on the tongue thanks to the bittering hops. since it is not completely gluten free (and not that it needs to be since i do not suffer from celiac), i can't qualify this offering as the best gluten free beer i've ever tasted; if only they all were like this. with the last of the growler in the glass, i can say that i want another!

Brewed by Kris Ketcham at Stone Brewing - Liberty Station. Poured from draft into a 16oz stemmed tulip. This is an IPA where the gluten has been reduced tremendously.

Brewers notes: Called Stripped Away IPA due to the fact that this beer is in fact Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale without the dark malt. But wait, there is more. We also added an enzyme from White Labs called Clarity-Ferm which reduces the amount of Gluten in the beer. The beer tested out to be under 5 ppm gluten. However, I encourage those that are gluten intolerant to make their own decision on trying this IPA with all of its delicious hop character and malt flavoring.
