Poured from a 22oz bottle into pint glass in June 2017. Drank it about 2 weeks after purchase. Bottled on date was Apr 2015.
Appearance: Dark brown with a tan/brown head. Body is very opaque and can barely see any light thru it. Head is initially thick, and leaves a very thin lacing on the glass. Head looks creamy and does not stick to glass.
Smell: Sweet aromas like caramel, vanilla, and honey, with a hint of hops edge. Overall it is a sweet aroma, more sweet than I would prefer.
Taste: A nice combination of flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. There is a nice bitterness from the hops that adds to the complexity. Strong alcohol flavor, similar to a whiskey, which is expected with 9% alcohol.
Mouth-feel: Strong, and with a smooth creamy body. Matches the 9% alcohol on the label. Not as creamy asother brown ales, which is a pleasant surprise.
This is an easy drinking ale. It has nice combination of flavors, with a touch of bitterness from the hops. I like this better than most other brown ales which are too sweet and lack any bite from the hops. I would buy this again.
