Tried on tap at Crush N Brewing in Temecula. Beer poured a very dark amber with little head. Smelled of tropical fruits which was actually very pleasant. The smell was definitely better than the taste, which was palatable and at least not offensive. The taste was heavy on the fruit with a mild bitterness. The feel was very heavy and almost syrup like. Overall not bad, but not my favorite special by Stone.

A: Fruit aroma mixed with rich malt sweetness with vinous aroma of wood with a touch of red wine acidity on finish.
A: Amber color, slightly opaque with little head retention and lacing.
T: Acidity from the red wine barrel is immediately noticeable, followed by some sour malt and wood on the finish.
M: Medium bodied with light carbonation. Sourness is a little sharp on the tongue.
O: The Belgian Abbey beer style did not work well to exemplify the fruit. The red wine barrel’s vinous aroma and acidity overpowered the passion fruit aroma and flavor. That being said, it's still a pretty drinkable beer.

Pours hazy amber-orange, with a thin off white head.
Fresh, funky, with grapefruit. I find it interesting that the aroma is so muted.
Balanced, fruity sweetness with hoppy bitterness. A long subtly bitter finish is welcoming.
Medium Body with abv well below expectations. Carbonation is less that one would expect for the style, but still present.
Meh. That's a new word for me, but it does seem to fit here. Yes, this is a fine beer, and certainly enjoyable, but when one has hopes for something special, "meh," seems to sum it up.
