February 14th, 2015 - No red ales for me this Valentine's Day. Instead I'm leaning into this stout, dark and brooding, and with a meaty, beefy aroma. Soy sauce and peppercorn are abound in this brew, making me hungry for something off the menu. But the flavor is dry - distant, but not light, with lots of savory notes to keep feeding that appetite. I also catch some oatmeal strength in the flavor and the body, making this a real feast in a glass with a clean, crisp finish.

On tap at the Stone Company Store in Pasadena, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oat, cocoa powder, and slight char aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, char, and toasted oat flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with fantastic aromas and flavors that make this one a treat to drink.

Serving type: on tap.

Poured from draft into a stemmed tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours pitch black with nice tan-colored head.

Aroma: Aromas of rich dark chocolate, blackstrap molasses, hazelnuts, raisins & fig, toast, and freshly roasted coffee.

Taste: Dark-Fruits such figs & prunes dominate the initial sip, followed by flavors of semi-sweet chocolate & Coffee. Goes down smooth with a lingering taste of cold-brewed coffee and subtle hints of black licorice.

Overall: Medium to full bodied, with a silky smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Nice roasty character but goes down easily!

Reason Behind the Name: Jeremy is an old schooler from old town and this is his oatmeal stout.
