September 22nd, 2013 - Light, effervescent, crisp and citrusy, this feels like unfamiliar territory for Stone. But the bold combinations of styles and ingredients is well within their wheelhouse. On the nose I catch a light and citrusy smell, suggesting lime and the salinity of seaside air, topped with the lights drizzle of popcorn butter. Perhaps margarita movie night at Big Sur? The palate is spritzy, which delivers a buoyant burst of the lime citrus taste. And the rest of the flavor is very dry, with pronounced grapefruit notes in the hops, but bitter, not fruity. The bitterness reaches a peak in the aftertaste before collapsing and revealing one last, soft flavor of grapefruit sweetness and the last wisp of lime. Too bad they didn't have this in July. I'd alternate between sipping it and bathing in it.

Nice light body beer. Great, spicy, Belgium flavors accompanied by a good dose of hops. Worth a try.

On tap at the Stone Company Store in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a hazy golden-yellow with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, floral, and Belgian yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and grapefruit juice flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop and yeast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a Belgian yeast quality that battles a bit with the citrus forward hop characteristics.

Serving type: on tap.
