The coffee notes in Stone Americano Stout are bold, rich and full of American swagger. For each 120-barrel batch, we incorporated over 250 lbs. of artisanal espresso-roast beans into the mash and added in Columbus, Chinook, Amarillo and Cascade hops to invigorate the coffee taste with a slight citrus and resin hop presence. When it came time to selecting our coffee, we chose the same local roasters who contributed to our sought-after 2013 Stone ESPRESSO Imperial Russian Stout. Their fantastic beans helped us achieve this dark, hoppy and wonderfully aromatic espresso stout.

Copenhagen 26/1 2018. 35,5 cl bottle from Meny. Print directly on brown bottle with Stone’s beer drinking devil.

Pours opaque dark brown with a small beige head. A lot of yeasty flotsam and jetsam floating around. Settles as a flimsy, thin layer of patchy foam. Moderate lacing.

Aroma is strong, dark and roasted. Chocolate, caramel, fairly strong roastiness and bitter coffee.

Medium strong carbonation and thick, creamy palate.

Flavor is medium sweet followed by quite strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter chocolate. Lingering.

Pleasurable imperial stout with good bitternes and nice roasted malts.

Bottled February 2016 - better times for sure - and I expect this would have been better then too - though not bad.
Essentially black pour with slight reddish brown head.
Aroma of dark chocolate, a bit of sherry, coffee grounds and dark fruits; hint of molasses.
Roasty on palate, a bit of char, coffee, dark chocolate bitterness, some leafy hop notes.
Medium bodied with decent carbonation and a bit of a slick but creamy mouthfeel.
Honestly think this was a really good beer - maybe great at one point, and I let it age out - but still enjoyable.

Smell is a little light. Definitely coffee stout, but seems simple and not overly strong. The taste lives up to its name. It tastes like a very strong cup of coffee. The coffee overpowers a bit.
Feel is a little thin. Maybe to be expected with a bottles on date from 9 years ago.
Overall, not a bad coffee stout, but seems to lack complexity and is overpowering on the cofffee.

Notes from 02.14.16
12oz bottle with Stone IRS snifter

This is a really great stout with a deep rich roastiness to it and pronounced hop bill. Tons of earthy coffee roast and chocolate espresso notes with a floral and citrusy component. Works well for me like a Victory Storm King. Pours semi-thick and dark as night with a dark tan bubbly foam head. Very smooth with some light char and black licorice/chicory noted on the backend. Alcohol is incredible well masked as this is pretty much a double Stout with some nice pop on the palate from the hop bitterness.

Bottle poured into a Stone Brewing Co snifter

A: Pours dark brown nearly black with a frothy cocoa brown head that settles to a light layer and leaves some nice lacing.

S: Roasty, earthy, espresso, dark chocolate, faint smoke and licorice, pine, herbal notes, a hint of citrus, and just a little dark sugar sweetness.

T: Roasty, plenty of espresso, dark chocolate, slightly nutty, a little spicy pine, herbal notes, subtle underlying citrus, orange, lemon, and grapefruit, rounded out with a hint of licorice, and some dark sugar sweetness.

M: Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, slightly creamy.

O: Don't ask me how I never managed to review this when it was fresh. It's aged very nicely, though. I imagine the coffee has mellowed a bit, but it's still plenty present. All around very enjoyable coffee stout.
