April 9th, 2015 - An Irish Stout? From Stone? I never would have imagined. The thinner body and subtler flavor of an Irish Stout seems well outside Stone's sphere of interest, so when I saw this pop up at the Stone South Park, I had to try it. It looks much like a Guinness, though the head is more traditional, caking the inside of the glass with foam. The aroma is dry, smelling like a root cellar or cold potatoes, and with a caked mud richness that reminds me of my days volunteering for an NGO that monitors river quality. The mouthfeel is full bodied with a noticeable strength of alcohol, but an oat softness on the side. It's truly a hefty beer, and once the bubbles settle I can taste some raisin and rum, as well as some German brown bread.

Had this in a flight at Stone's annual 4/20 takeover at Limerick's Tavern in Alhambra, CA.
Quick Review:
Very boozy, reminiscent of angel city's imperial red that was aged in Jameson Whiskey Barrels; lot of oak. Great black color with tan head of foam. Very smooth, especially for an 11% beer.
