Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a sculpted glass tumbler. Bottled on 06/15/17, sampled on 09/03/17 (BB date 09/28/17). Crystal clear amber color. Rather aggressive initial pour resulted in an enormous amount of thick, white foam. After allowing it to settle a bit, I finished off the glass with a tentative pour down the side of the glass. The thick head hung around for several moments, finally settling into a quarter-inch-thick white cap. Hop aroma was quite subtle. There were notes of bright citrus with a little floral character over bready, light-caramel malt. These carry over to the palate, with a pleasantly sticky bitterness takes over as the beer warms from fridge temperature. Overall a very good beer, with all the makings of a fine food beer.

12 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a big creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is floral lemon with some garlic. A bit of an odd mix.

The flavor is sweet biscuity fruitcake with lemon and some bubble gum and a pretty bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a bit of a mixed up mess.

I was extremely interested in this "revolving hop series and had never heard of "Ella" hops, but it's Stone...all in all, this offering is an IPA ala Stone. I honestly cannot tell a difference between this and any other hop Stone uses or has used (truth be told, I recently enjoyed several locally produced lagers...). Bottom line, it's an IPA and it's from Stone! Nuff' said!

A: Orange amber in color, slightly hazy with a moderate white head.

S: Bright and sweet, almost cloying with a touch of cherry, orange peel, tangerine, and mandarin orange.

T: Taste follows suit with orange and citrus dominating.. almost a touch too sweet.

M: Medium mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, with a long bitter cling.

O: Overal a pretty tasty brew.

Bottle poured into a Stone Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and laves quite nicely.

S: Spicy pine and citrus up front, followed by a rather unique mix of fruity notes, some biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

T: Spicy pine, citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and orange, floral, underlying fruity notes, blueberry, mango, papaya, and passion fruit, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Super interesting hop. Stone did a great job showing it off.

As nice a single hop as I've tried in a while, notably for being so original.
Glad to be 10th review of Ella.
A mixed 24 pack from Costco (only $30)~!
in a giant snifter.

A) One finger of head with a gentle pour, which lasts and laves slants of lace, over a clear copper - gold body. 4

S: Ella offers gentle aromas of floral, passion fruit, orange, mango, pine, pepper, all carried on a lasting cedary wood base.

T: Ella tastes more robust with pepper, plus as with aromas, more of white grape, flowers, passion fruit, orange, and pine that rests on on a cedar, nutty, malt wooden backbone. Sunny and floral finished with pepper.

F: Mouth feel makes you come back for more again and again to savor it like wine, good mid body, and oily but creamy body and that scrubbing pepper finish.

O: Rich, tangy, crisp, fresh. A beautiful beer - great first of the evening.

Appearance: Cloudy golden amber, with a nice head of off-white suds and thin lace.

Aroma: Citrus and tropical fruits — pineapple, grapefruit, mango…pretty delicious.

Taste: Big and sweetly tropical, with a rush of bitterness at finish. Superb IPA all the way, packed with a bounty of hoppy power.

Pours a slightly hazy deep orange/amber, little to know head and dissipates quickly. Smell is bright and robust, banana, candied orange, with a hint of lemon and grass. The flavor is a little off, could be an issue post bottling but the case was labeled as fresh for another month and I'm in cali and got this pack from a shop that usually does a good job of caring for their beer. There is a pleasantly sharp lemony/citrus flavor over the top but the undertone is a sort of musty/malty thing that flirts with notes of guava or papaya. Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp, very clean and pleasant. Overall a drinkable IPA featuring a hop that I've not seen anywhere else. Might be the source of the funk I taste, definitely an unusual fruity character to the hop overall.
