This was a gift, hence the age. The bottle pour is orange-amber with a 2 cm foam cap and a malty-sweet aroma. I was a bit fearful that this had devolved into to barley wine-like territory, but no. The flavor includes earthy hop notes and the coffee presence is noted. This is a different sort of DIPA. The finish is a bit sticky. I enjoyed sharing this in a rare share day in current times.

Poured from a Magnum into a Delerium Tremens tulip - Berlin collaboration series #5
L: Nearly clear golden copper pour. Massive foamy white head. Great lacing.
S: Malty and rich mixed with coffee beans and citrus.
T/F: Follows the nose. Surprisingly malty... rich... caramel and dark sugars giving way to a citrusy/fruity hop character. Drinks more like an Imperial Red than an IPA. Good flavors though... coffee in the back... present but not overpowering. Medium in body... fairly smooth... a bit earthy.
O: An interesting collaboration effort... overall good flavors, and well worth trying. More malty than expected... coffee very much in the background, and less of a hop kick than I would have hoped for. Still... really nice if you can find it.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this, consumed 8/19/17, review from notes
A: Burnt orange to copper - lightly hazy - pours with a medium to large foamy head - fades to a wispy cap, leaves some really nice lacing
S: Smells more like a Stone DIPA than a coffee IPA - juicy citrus with some nice orange and grapefruit juice and flesh - leafy hops and some resinous hops - not a ton of coffee, honestly, but some nice roasty character - Dayman had a more intriguing coffee aroma - oily - light sweetness
T: Juicy citrus with orange, grapefruit, and citrus zest - leafy and wet hop cones - substantial lack of coffee - some light coffee flavor is dominated by the dank citrus - lightly earthy - chewy pale malts and some sweetness - some booze
M: Medium body, smooth, medium carbonation, a touch oily
O: The Nightman has influenced this beverage
The notion of an "imperial Dayman" was so very exciting. Sadly, Champion of the Sun just drinks like a average (maybe below average) Stone DIPA with some splashes of coffee. Have I mentioned I miss Dayman?
