Very Good
White GhostWhite Ghost
Notes: Also known as White Geist in Germany

Our tartly refreshing, kettle-soured Stone Berliner Weisse gained its orthodox sour and acidic character from a specially selected Lactobacillus strain sourced from local Berlin cultures. To ensure a properly Stone, and therefore iconoclastic, Berliner Weisse, we upped the ABV to a healthy 4.7% and hopped the beer with new German varieties, Huell Melon and Callista. This beer embodies the liveliness of summer with the fruity tang of apricots and the sweetness of ripe honeydew. Versions exist labelled both White Ghost and White Geist

330 ml can, from Coop Extra Sauda. ABV is 4.7%. Hazy and very pale straw colour, large white head. Aroma of lactic acid and dried apricots. Very sour flavour, loads of lactic acid, notes of dried and sour apricots, also lemons. Not my cup of tea.

Poured to a small Mikkeller tasting glass.

A: Body is opaque yellow with tons of head due to excessive carbonation.
S: Aroma is wildly big with notes of gooseberries, raspberries, apricots and the acidity of lactic acid bacteria fermentation. It smells amazing.
T: The taste is sharp and fresh with sweetness from apricots and malts coming together before jumping to a wave of bitterness from the berries and acidity from the lactic acid. It's not a round flavor at all but it sure is pleasant.
M: Body is medium low. Carbonation is high. Alcohol is unnoticeable. Acidity is medium high.
O: I'm falling in love with Berliner Weisses.

Can, near the best before date of September 14th 2019, it has a 9 month window.

It pours a hazy orange yellow with an impressive but short lived head of foam.

Smells fruity and tart. I note lemon, apricots, that's aboot it.

Taste is lemon, apricot, apple cider, tart, not complex but it doesn't need to be. Fine as is.

Light body with lively carbonation.

Tasty and enjoyable.

If you want a decent introduction to a sour beer, this is the one to taste. Perfect for a hot day and a refreshing difference from the popular beers. Tart and satisfying, you'll be glad you poured one.

Look: It pours straw with a white head. Head retention is very good.

Smell: It has a lemony sour aroma to start with. There are backgrounds notes of tart apple and slight dough.

Taste: The flavors are strong with tart apple and a bit of grape. It has moderately strong sourness with bready and cracker like doughy support.

Feel: It has a light body with high carbonation. The finish is moderately sour.

Overall, the sourness and various flavors work well together. It's not overly sour, quite refreshing.

Poured from a slightly less than 12 oz EuroCan into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Cloudy golden pour with massive fluffy white head. Falls fast with sticky lacing.

S: Tart and citrusy.

T.F: Just like it smells. Tart lemonade up front... citrus and wheat with a bit of funk. Well carbonated and light bodied.

O: An easy drinking Berliner Weisse... perfect for the warmer weather. Light and easy to throw down after a few hours working in the yard.

Poured out of a 12 oz can into my goblet glass, this beer pours a somewhat cloudy/hazy medium golden color with a huge, fizzy, white head that's well over an inch thick when poured with lots of streams of little bubbles continuously and fairly rapidly rising to the beer's surface. Head settles to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass along with a single, big cluster swirl of foam on the beer's surface. Aromas of some bready, zesty malts and some wheat followed by a big of an herbal grassyness along with tart lemon, grapefruit, and orange notes are all nicely present. The taste is very similar, with some bready, zesty, malt and wheat notes that give way to the aforementioned herbal grassyness with a hint of barnyard funk and nice notes of tart lemon, grapefruit, and orange notes followed by bits of blueberry and melon that all ads just the right amount of sourness. Has just a slight earthy, herbal hop presence to round out the flavor profile. Has a crisp, slightly prickly/tingly, also smooth and frothy, light to medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate to heavy carbonation. has a clean finish with s slightly sour and bready aftertaste. Very nice job once again here Stone!

Straw yellow, fluffy cap that fades quickly. Aroma and palate fall along similar lines - tart wheat, mild citrus and some lacto sourness. Felt the lacto element was perhaps a tad vinegary, and weighed down the beer, which isn’t as snappy & sharp as it should be

Some days you just have days where all your scores are positive rate deviations, even though 90% of your reviews overall are negative rate deviations. Today is that day.

You get a hazy yellow color and an industry standard 1/2" white head. Looks good and traditional. Simple aroma of lemon and wheat, yup, check the standard and traditional boxes on this one so far.

Taste checks the traditional notes too, albeit with perhaps just a bit more sourness. Light wheat cracker like base, just a little bit of citrus impact on it. Great clean result out of it, wasn't gritty. Crisp finish. Dig the use of new hop varieties, they don't distract from the overall mission of a berliner weisse. I think they hit a home run with this beer, I'm a big berliner fan, and I've already went back to purchase more for summertime. They've reduced the price to $8/6 pack where I am, I'll just keep crushing it at that price.

330 ml can into tulip glass, canned on 11/14/2018, best before 8/11/2019. Pours very hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, passion fruit, blueberry, gooseberry, strawberry, red/green apple, white grape/wine, citrus peel/zest, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, passion fruit, blueberry, gooseberry, strawberry, red/green apple, white grape/wine, citrus peel/zest, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tang/tartness; light herbal/floral/grassy bitterness, and peppery spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, passion fruit, blueberry, gooseberry, strawberry, red/green apple, white grape/wine, citrus peel/zest, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tang/tartness balance, and no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/tang/sourness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy/acidic, fairly tangy, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.7%. Overall this is an excellent dry hopped Berliner. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink, with the modestly acidic/tangy/drying finish, not overly lactic. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Awesomely well rounded Lacto and Huell Melon/Callista hop complexity; with a great pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive spot on style example as expected.

Had on tap at Stone Little Italy. Very much in style of a traditional Berliner Weiss. Perhaps a bit heavy in the body compared to German versions. Thought new hops worked and were complementary. Over all a nice brew. Wish I had my woodruff syrup to play a little

Kind of watery for a kettle sour but I guess that does make it more drink able. Best part of the beer is the look hazy bright yellow with a rocking half inch of foam. Body just really let me down doesn't have the full bodied flavor one would expect in the style just mildly sour and slight sweet/grainy finish.

Stone Brewing "White Geist"
11.2 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 07.16.2018 BEST BEFORE 04.12.2019..."
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: A hazy yellow body is caped by a short lid of bright white foam. The aroma is mineralish and fruity, and suggests tartness. I can't figure out what the fruits are, but I'm finding some floral character as well. The flavor follows with the addition of some sweetish malt to balance it, and to be honest, it's not as tart as a true Berliner weisse, but that's OK. I know it says on the label "TRUE AUTHENTIC BERLINER WEISSE", and that's certainly true now that Stone's built a brewery there, but I'm referring to the Berliners of yesteryear, Kindl and Schultheiss (and I assume all of the many that came before). It's really quite pleasant with a nice balance of sweetish malt, light acidity, and fruit (apricot, peach, melon, white grape, pink grapefruit). I think I could drink this as a regular beer - two or three out with the lads if you know what I mean. It would be great for summer, sure, but it's also got enough malt and alcohol (4.7% abv) and character to drink it anytime; and not so much acidity that it builds on you or turns your stomach. So, to finish up, it's medium-light in body and gently crisp. Worth trying!

L: straw yellow, hazy, no lacing
A: fermented fruit, lemon, overripe melon
T: tangy, honeycomb, with zings of lemon and melon. Getting some spice and herbal character from the German varietal hops. Nice malt build mixed in.
M: not too puckery or sweet, mellow but nicely carbonated. The sourness is very nicely flavored, and is unique lactobacillus character is something new. Some interesting profiles coming with this kettle soured beer

Easy drinking, tart, flavorful. Fairly middle of the road, tame. Not a top 10 sour by any means, but certainly worth trying. Would be nice if there was more fruit presented, a summer fruit like peach perhaps would amp this beer up and bring it to another dimension.

I love goses and recently more and more sours so when I realized that this Berliner Weisse is akin to them I was mire than glad to sample this. Especially because I love Stone and I never had anything in this vein from them.
It is basically like the "basis" of a gose without the herbs and spices, just pure sourness, like lemon juice or sour grapefruit or vinegar? It even turns into bitter in the end but that is great. I feel like Stone did hop it well, although I can't decipher tastes amongst this sourness.
I loved it, it is light, refreshing and tempting you to drink more and more. It was soon over, left me longing for more.

Pours a hazy golden yellow, thin head and minimal lace.

Nose is slightly malty, tart, hops. Good balance, subtle. Lots of tart fruit and stone fruit come out as it warms.

Flavors are wheaty, tart. Once it has a moment to settle, it brings out some more of that sour fruit along with a balance of earthy, grassy notes.

Effervescent carb. Thin body. Crisp, refreshing l.
