Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Who wants to kick fruit out of beer? Not us. When done right, adding orange or grapefruit or tangerine can contribute a deeper level of delicious complexity to the beer. In this case, peach was the perfect complement to enhance the substantial bill of hops in this double IPA. May its reign last more than a few terms.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/17/2018. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big juicy peach, apricot, orange, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, toasted bread, light nutty/caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of peaches, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy peach, apricot, orange, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, toasted bread, light nutty/caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine, herbal, grassy, citrus peel bitterness; and fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of peach, apricot, orange, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, toasted bread, light nutty/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of peaches, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance; and zero lingering hop/fruit astringency after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, fairly sticky, and slightly resinous/tangy mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 8.8% after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of peaches, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV; with the mellowly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Loral/Mosaic hops. Very juicy hops/fruit, with light dankness; sizable bready malt backbone, but not overly sweet/heavy for the ABV. Very well balanced all around, and not overdone on fruit. A very enjoyable offering as expected.

12 oz. Can
Canned: 04/21/18
Enjoy By: 08/25/18

Poured into a Trillium glass a pretty nice hazy dark golden orange color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which leaves some pretty nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, peach), nice pine. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, peach), nice little pineyness. Medium body, ABV is hidden pretty nice, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew.

Had this at the Strange Brew 2018 festival. Pours a kind of peach and light orange color with 1/2" white head. Nothing wrong with the appearance, Stone does real good at making attractive looking beers usually. Aroma lacks hoppiness. I know the commercial tug job says substantial bill of hops, but it isn't coming through in the nose in reality. Just some soft fruit notes that aren't really distinct as to a specific type (say peach for instance).

Taste, I dunno, a little bland. The hops still seem underwhelming, the sweetness from the fruit counterbalance the beer to the point that it doesn't feel like a double ipa. Yes, it does hide the alcohol well, has a nice pale toasted malt body and is properly carbonated.

Pretty much ever fruited ipa ever is worse than the base version, and I can't feel any different here. I think this beer could be tweaked and substantially better, but I think they just went with the wordplay angle for the most part here.

Can from ABV.

A clear copper with a dense, off-white head with decent retention and lacing. The nose is dominated by peach, fresh, juicy and sweet along with a moderate hop bitterness. There's stone fruit, a little bit of ripe orange and a touch of pine present. Malt sweetness is minimal. The palate opens with a nice, rounded bitterness with orange zest, ripe grapefruit juice and a delicious peach note. Rather juicy and incredibly fragrant, the peach character really shines here. Medium light in body with a fleshy peach flavor that lingers, this beer is moderately carbonated. Also present on the finish is a lingering bitterness. Quite excellent.

Orange body with about two fingers worth of white head. Aroma of light peaches and bready malt. Tastes of a malt backbone, light peaches, and a bitter hop finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Overall a pretty good DIPA from Stone with an equally pretty great name!

I'm into a peach AIPA. Sure. Impeach sounds like a great idea, but not likely to happen.

It pours clear deep yellow with fine fizz. The aroma - peaches! A triumph, with the fruit dominating the AIPA smells. The taste is a little less dry and boring that some AIPAs with that fruit taste and tartness coming through. The aftertaste is a dirty fruit and bitterness.

Recommended. We really should shake up the political scene too.
