Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Who wants to kick fruit out of beer? Not us. When done right, adding orange or grapefruit or tangerine can contribute a deeper level of delicious complexity to the beer. In this case, peach was the perfect complement to enhance the substantial bill of hops in this double IPA. May its reign last more than a few terms.

Appearance – Clear deep yellow body with a half finger head.

Aroma – Light fruitiness and citrus with hints of floral. No obvious peach.

Taste – Bitter, light stone fruit but not blatantly peaches, bready and a little biscuity.

Mouthfeel – Somewhat smooth, definitely not fuzzy.

Overall – A good DIPA but didn’t live up to the name.

I'M PEACH! I feel a need to shout this out after having read the eisdom on the can and having taken the first sip into this gorgeous brew. Because who doesn't like peach? I have been looking for a pure peach juice for a long time, maybe to that extent I have been fond of peaches. We somehow always had peaches growing in my grandparents' garden from late spring to early autumn... so peaches are something I just can't do without.
And then comes this WIPA from the amazing Stone and then you already know you're up to something no good. Because it is so fruity that the peachiness just blasts out of the can once you break it open. It looks, smells and needless to say, tastes amazing! And it's good they made a double IPA out of it! The density and the alcohol just supports the peachiness, feels really like a thick peach juice! Wonder what hops they used for achieving this unison? Because both the hops and the pieces support each other, back to back, it is amazing how well they go with each other. You even get that saviory zestiness of the fruit coming through, they must have used some really good peaches down there in Escondido.
Well, what else can I say? I am loving it bigtime and it's a truly nice WIPA to have, a true refreshing sensation of having something slightly different in every once in a while.

I would rate it a five. The political statement lost 2 points. Beer is for enjoyment not political endorsements. I still enjoyed the beer. Cheers to a third party!

L - hazy burnt orange (kind of the color of a peach to be honest) with a thin offwhite head that dissipates quickly but leaves behind some lacing
S - Piney, citrusy hops along with malt and floral notes - relatively faint otherwise.
T - Piney, bitter, citrus hops up front followed behind by floral notes and notes of citrus and a sweet fruitiness that is most likely the peaches (though I wouldn't be able to pick out the flavor it I didn't know it was in there to begin with). It's all held together with a nice malt backbone.
F - Medium to full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation - juicy
O - This is probably one of the better IPAs Stone's put out this year - Virtuale being my favorite of the year from them - but regardless, this IPA doesn't really do anything special for me. Sure, it's good, really good, but it's just not great - blindfolded you wouldn't be able to tell this has peaches in it - just some sort of sweet fruit character - to me that's a flaw.

I like Stone doubles but this is not as good as others. The only reason I bought it was because it was Stone and I try all double IPAs. While some may like the subtle political message, I did not! I would normally pass on any company who gets political. Best to keep politics out of our beer enjoyment and not alienate half of the country.

Bottled on 5/4/2018 - poured from a 22oz bomber into my Bruery tulip.

Slightly hazy burnt orange liquid with a smattering of off-white foam; average retention; soapy lacing.

Mosaic seems to dominate the nose which has a fruit forward aroma with citrus and just a hint of nectarine/peach (probably more from Loral than from peaches).

Moderate bitterness joined by a soft sweetness leading into a faintly earthy/pithy/crackery finish. Well balanced, although the peaches clash somewhat with the base beer, bringing out the more savory elements of the hops rather than heightening the impact of the fruit flavors.

Well carbonated, brisk, and at warming and refreshing at once.

While not exactly a gimmick gone wrong, this doesn't work nearly as well as Tangerine Express IPA, and neither are as good as most of their more traditional IPAs.

A: The beer is rather hazy amber yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head consisting of medium-sized bubbles that died down, leaving only a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of citrusy hops are preset in the nose along with notes of peaches.
T: The taste has moderate flavors of peaches along with notes of citrusy hops—oranges and tangerines seem to stand out in particular. There is a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The citrusy and peachy flavors in this beer work very well together. It wasn't overly fruity and still has the nice crisp "bite" and bitterness that you would expect from an Imperial IPA. Any traces of alcohol are very well hidden from the taste.
