Pretty awesome ipa. Served in a tulip glass at The Porch in key west. Golden amber color, light foam, loads of lacing. Can definitely perceive the strong abv on the nose. But thats mixed with mangos and cherries. The taste from start to finish is perfected. Nothing harsh, and it drinks like a beer thats half the abv. I've always shyed away from high abv dipa's...but this changes my mind

Pungent, off balanced, oily, soapy hop. Oily feel.

Aroma is floral, citrus/fruit and creeping dank hops. The flavor is citrus, fruit, grapefruit, malts, hops/mild hop resin and a mix of bitter and warming alcohol in the finish.

L: Amber look with nice lace.
S: typical hop and malt.
T: great IPA. Solid showing for a west coast beer.
F: smooth and soft. If a stout became a ipa it would be this.
O: great beer. Got this from the anniversary 4 pack.

Thanks to Brad for sharing this one at Oneinchaway's tasting.
Pours a hazy dark honey orange with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, honey, brown sugar, and slight cardboard aromas. Taste is much the same with cardboard, brown sugar, citrus fruit, and pineapple flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is definitely oxidized and old, but is still fairly drinkable for its age.
Serving type: bottle.

Tasted 8/28/14. Bottle was about 8 years old. Surprisingly no signs of oxidation at all. Poured a murky brownish gold color. It drank pretty much like a barleywine. Again, no oxidation could be detected in this bottle. The beer had nice prune and fig notes with a malty backbone and surprising bitterness that's still hanging on from the hops. Really interesting to try such an old IPA.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass some 8 years after this was bottled...
A pretty good, semi-flat barleywine essentially.
I was nervous - I've never had such an old IPA. I loved it - it reminds me of beers like Double Dancer, but with less carbonation.
The smell was great, with some nice malt and hop aroma.
Color was extremely cloudy and muddy - a reddish orange.
For such an old beer, this held up amazingly well.

08/22/12 On tap. Part of a Stone's flight. I was looking to re-appraise my appreciation (or lack thereof) for Stone's stuff. This was a bitter lightweight compared to the 16th Anniversary. Unfortunately all the hop jiggery-pokery went to waste on this un-hoppy guy. Better than most, but not enough for me to change horses.
