Had on-tap at Stone World Bistro and Gardens, San Diego, CA
Appearance - poured 10oz into a snifter. Murky and auburn brown with a mostly barren surface. Mostly barren surface with a ring of sandstone colored suds encircling the edge of the glass.
Smell - Prominent peat smoke and scotch barrel influence on the nose. Sweet and slightly medicinal. Faint caramel.
Taste - Follows the nose. Strong peat malt character, with sweet smoke and lesser medicinal character that lingers. Sweet caramel and toffee undertone. Citrus bitterness and a hint of spice from the hops emerge mid-taste and adds a nice counterbalance to the smokiness.
Mouthfeel - Close to full in body with moderate, tingly carbonation. Slick texture upfront quickly gets a little sticky and dry in the finish.
Overall - Good, but a bit too 'peaty' for me to enjoy thoroughly. However I must say it's much better than the mess Double Bastard 'Uncut' was.
